Sally H wrote:Hi everyone
having looked at the responses, it looks as if 20 August might be the best common date. I am sorry to change the date, but I want this to be an all inclusive event, as far as we can make it, which gives an opportunity for us all to meet and have an enjoyable day. A boat trip is obviously the favourite option, although only a 40 minute one, and we can easily include a walk along the river as well if the weather is good. Our Find Outer friends used to walk along the Thames in all weathers! It's all about the appropriate clothing!
I suggest I cancel the booking for 2 July at the Chequers in Marlow and advise we may book an alternative date later for lunch in the bar (dog friendly). In the meantime, can we gather a list of interested Forum members who want to attend.
Tony - if you are able to contact Angela Canning and others who are not internet users, it would be great to have them there as well.
I must admit, Sally, I do fancy the Chequers food menu rather more than the Cookham pub. It would be good to take the boat trip but I am always ready for other options and all weathers!
Let's look at the list so far:
Julie 2
Eddie 2
Daisy 2? Hope you can make it
Francis2? Hope you can make it
Lucky Star 1 Hope you can make it
Nigel 2? Hope you can make it
Courtney 1? Hope you can make it
Katherine
Sally 1
Tony?
Anita?
Pippa-Steff?

Re: Forumites Meet Up in August?
Well, had we stayed with the original date we would have had good weather. As I mentioned before, we stuck to going as we had other plans for the following day. Instead of Marlow or Cookham we ended up visiting Hughenden Manor http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hughenden" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - the home of Disraeli - and very interesting it was too.
I'm still not sure if I shall make it in August. Dick Kirrin will be staying with us for 3 nights on his way to Ireland during the previous week and is sorry he won't be able to join us as he is due in Ireland on the 19th. We will see nearer the time whether we can make it or not.

Just caught up with Forum posts, and glad you had a good day in Cookham and the surrounding area Daisy.
Off on hol tonight for a week, but hope to look at numbers for 20 August later in July to try and rearrange a great day or us all.

Every time I see this thread, forumites meet up. My heart screams out to be a part of the meetup, it is such a dream to be able to meet all of you in real life. I just so wish , that one day I could be a part of the Enid Blyton Day. All of you in England are so lucky, you can easily go.

I don't see a problem with the 20th August for me but I wouldn't make it until at least 2pm as I'm working til 12:30 unless I can get cover.
"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

I think I'd like to visit Exbury Gardens, really, one of the locations for the Five's Getting into Trouble 70's TV.
I suppose it's too late to alter all plans?

I also like the sound of Exbury Gardens, Julie. If plans are changed, I'd be happy with a trip to Exbury. Whatever is decided, it will just be nice to meet up with friends old and new.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Re: Forumites Meet Up in August?
I have suggested Exbury in the past, Julie, but August is not really the best time to visit. It is spectacular in May with a fantastic display of azaleas and rhododendrons (as you can see on their website) and although I have never been there in the autumn it is apparently very colourful then as well.
The big disadvantage for Exbury is that although it is great for those travelling by car, it is a nightmare to reach for anybody trying to use public transport. I have been there twice (it was well worth a second visit), but on both occasions I drove there.

Re: Forumites Meet Up in August?
Thanks, Tony. Maybe we could all get together next May and see Exbury Gardens.

... or this Autumn? It looks lovely although it couldn't be much further south if it tried!
