Here is a drawing of Cookham that I didn't include in the next Journal as I couldn't get a good enough image of it. The artist is Dick Hughes who was Enid's gardener at Old Thatch.

That's wonderful, Tony!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I wonder if we will recognise it from the illustration! It looks lovely and peaceful - not a car in sight.

What a lovely sketch! :D
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

That's a lovely sketch. I've been to Cookham and it's a lovely place.

There should be seven of you now going looking at the list.

Sally
Courtenay
John
Francis
Izzy
Daisy and hubby.

That is a lovely illustration, Tony. I can really imagine Peterswood looking similar! I'm so sorry so many now can't make it, but really hope the rest of you have a wonderful time. I will do all I can to attend the next one. It is really peculiar how it seems to be so much more difficult to arrange things now that we are retired than when we were working.

Here's a contrast with a more modern image Daisy.

It doesn't seem to have altered much, Pete. Thanks for putting that up.

I remember the very first The Saint with Roger Moore in B&W and that was filmed in Cookham and on Cookham Station.

Here's an old picture postcard of Cookham:

Just arrived back from holiday and caught up with posts and messages.

There is obviously great disappointment that we can't guarantee the boat trip and therefore are looking at alternative arrangements. A Forum annual meet up needs to incorporate a goodly number and the drop-out numbers suggest the walk isn't as popular - let's be frank! Disappointing though it might be for some, may I suggest we find an alternative date for our annual meet up and do the boat trip? A meet up of 7 people just won't be the same and I think we need to be inclusive on this.

Appreciate holidays are now likely to intervene, but how do members feel about the following for alternative dates:

13 August
20 August

I for one am glad you have suggested this, Sally, as I was disappointed about the boat trip, and the fact that the area will be full to bursting with the Henley Regatta.

Either day is fine for me if I can get accommodation.

Hi Sally. I hope you enjoyed your holiday. :D

At present, either date is fine for me.
