And on top of that, I've always wondered why Purbeck is known as an "isle" when it's not an island, it's a peninsula!!

Because it sounds more evocative!

Vivienne Endecott, author of The Dorset Days of Enid Blyton told the Fabulous Outsiders that Enid first visited Corfe Castle in 1931. She [Enid] wrote about her visit in a Teacher's World article. In 1942 she write the first Famous Five book. The ruined castle on Kirrin Island is really Corfe castle.

So now we know for sure.

I visited the exhibition in Canterbury today. I enjoyed it very much, I just wish it was a bit bigger, it could have done with more on the mystery and adventure books. I skipped the wall with carping reviews, there was plenty of other things to read and look at. The rest of the museum is worth a look too with paintings, porcelain, doll's house furniture etc. I am so pleased I went. It is well worth the trip if you live in the south-east.

I don't blame you for skipping the wall with the carping comments! If I get a chance to visit again, I'll certainly keep my back to that bit.

I haven't seen the rest of the museum, there wasn't time on my last visit, and on a previous visit we just looked around the ground floor, I had no idea there was more upstairs.

This exhibition is nearly over now - sadly I didn't manage to get to it, but my sister-in-law who lives in Kent sent this which gives us a taste of what was on offer.

Nice review, Daisy, but of course they had to mention accusations of "snobbery, racial bigotry and pure escapism"! So glad the Beaney had David Rudd give his talk there, which balanced out the picture very well - pity it was only the one night. They should have recorded it and made it required viewing/listening for anyone who feels the urge to rubbish Enid!!

You haven't read my editorial in the Journal, Julie, as it doesn't open in Plymouth until June 17th! I know that after an exhibition everything goes back to Newcastle before moving on to the next venue (which will also be the last venue this year).

Pity it's not coming to Birmingham or Solihull!

Sorry, Tony, I did read your editorial, as I always do. But remembering that after a few weeks of my reading the Journal, is something I can't always remember! Sadly the old brain doesn't retain what I did last week, let alone what I've read.

Someone will have to remind me when it's on then.

Julie - just checked the Seven Stories website and as Tony said, the Blyton exhibition will be on at Plymouth Museum from 17 June to 5 September. I am certainly hoping to go probably in August. Would be great if we could find a common date which some Society members could make. Is there general interest getting together in Plymouth? I realise it is just too far for some.

All being well, I'm hoping to go back and see it again on Thursday.

I think John mentioned it for when he was visiting Devon. Around July I think. I'm sure John will confirm if he reads this posting.

I would be interested in going in July if other forum members are interested.
