Return to Old Thatch - Sunday 22 July

Post by Sally »

Just to say that, as the jet stream seems to be heading north, the sun is promised to shine on Sunday, we are aiming to spend a day in Bourne End, visiting Old Thatch and having a picnic by the river. I am not suggesting a Society Day at short notice, but if any other Blyton fans feel like a visit, it will be lovely to meet up with you.

Old Thatch in Coldmoorholme Lane is open from 1400-1700 on both Saturday and Sunday, and teas are available.

Hope you have a lovely day, Sally, and anyone who is able to join you. Sadly we won't be able to attend as our plans for the weekend are already make.

Anyone who is planning on going and have not already been will not be disappointing with Old Thatch. It's a beautiful place and a painters paradise.

Julie - I didn't expect you would be able to make it after our last conversation - a long way from Cornwall. Never mind, Francis, we just thought we would try and pay another visit this summer if Sunday proves as fine as the weather forecast predicts. If it rains, we won't go! We hope to have a good walk along the river on the "long river path to Marlow" where Fatty and the Find-Outers spent so many lovely summers and where in winter he even followed a night watchmen or two.......I will enjoy my thoughts!

Hoping to be able to go to Old Thatch on Sunday with the kids and Mother-in-Law. Weather dependant as always (well this is England), look forward to seeing a familiar face or two.

I WISH I could make it, but my Grandmother's coming over for lunch, so I won't be able to make it, otherwise I would have been there like a shot, been meaning to go back when I found time, which is proving impossible at the moment.

Still, I might get chance to do so before long, I may even convince one of my friends to come with me.

Have fun everyone who ends up going!
"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

Well I managed to get down to Old Thatch without stangling the kids in the car but that may be due to the fact that I had other grown up help. Maybe I should just leave the pair of them alone and see which one comes out as the winner?

This is the path to the railway crossing with my son trying to run out of the picture.

These are stories written by the local school which (I think) are being turned into a book. Just got a quick glance at the description until I was dragged off to the cakes.

I saw Sally and managed to say hello for a few minutes until my son demanded his cake and drink. I don't think my son was too impressed when he was told that all the cakes had been sold. We had a few tears until he went inside and realised there was lots of lovely cakes, but then he had to choose only one. Both children declared that the best part of the garden was section 11 - tea shop.
