Return to Old Thatch - 7 July 2012 - come and join us!

Post by Sally »

Following on from the Blyton Day and our visit to Old Thatch last year, a few of us thought it would be fun to arrange to meet again at the newly refurbished Spade Oak pub in Coldmoorholm Lane in Bourne End and then visit Old Thatch in the afternoon - we have agreed Saturday 7 July, only 8 weeks away, and suggest meeting up at 12.30 for lunch - the gardens open at 2.00 p.m. Tea and scrummy cake will be available as always.
Rob - as you missed the Blyton Day, hopefully you can join us on the 7th and see some of the gang.

Suggest we start a list and then can add names to it to get a general idea of numbers near the time. I will make a general booking at the Spade Oak this week and let Jacky Hawthorne know at Old Thatch. Looking forward to meeting up!

I've made a note of the date Sally, and will do our best, but with Stephen still working, it can sometimes be difficult. We'll probably be able to know whether or not we'll be there a little nearer the time. :)

Hopefully should be able to make it- funds allowing!
"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

I don't think I can justify 2 trips in one year - tempting as that may be. Hope those who do go have a lovely time though.

Hopefully there will be another meeting at Old Thatch some time
when I can come. I'm already getting withdrawal symptoms (you know what
I mean!) about the Enid Blyton Day. So many days looking forward to it and
then it's gone like a beautiful dream.

I may come along to this :-)

Sally - are you the Sally I spoke to at the Enid Blyton Day? The one who writes the fan fiction on the enid blyton .net site?

Looks like a great place to spend a few hours, even if the main Enid Blyton evidence is the pond that she built.
It's only a couple of hours drive from us, will see if I can fit it into our calendar.
I went on some great adventures reading the Famous Five books.

Hi David - yes I am the same Sally. It was good to meet you both, and hopefully we can get a group together to visit Old Thatch on 7 July. It really is worth a visit if you like gardens, and of course it is wonderful to think that EB lived there from 1929 to 1938 and wrote many stories at her typerwriter in the garden.

Hope you enjoy the fan-fics if you have time to read them.

Sadly, Chick and I will not be able to attend the Old Thatch gathering after all, as arrangements have been made to celebrate my daughter-in-law's fortieth birthday on 7th July.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Maybe those who intent to come to Old Thatch should put down their names so that Sally can see exact numbers.

I still don't think we'll be able to come, Sally.

Just checked in having been on holiday for 10 days - it seems a number of people can't now make 7 July for this visit. Perhaps we should reschedule for later in the summer? How would Saturday 21 July suit everyone who might wish to go? We don't need large numbers, but I would have thought a group of say 10 would make it worth arranging. Could we start a list for those who are interested and can make this date?
