The post is slow again here so I haven't received the journal yet. Seems like it is coming by pony trap.

My journal came yesterday, very nice to get it at last, made my day. The post is slow but sure. I knew I could rely on the pony trap :).
I had a quick glance through it and will get stuck in tonight. It is time for me to renew my membership as well I see, so I will be doing that soon.

How do we know when it is time to renew our membership? Is there a note in the journal?

There will be a renewal form slipped inside when it's time to renew :-)

There should have been a reminder note in Journal 55 to tell you to renew for 56, 57 and 58. I'm afraid this is why you haven't yet had a copy of Journal 56!

A nice assortment of articles in the journal which I enjoyed reading over the last week or so.
Nice to see the colourful set of jigsaws in the centre pages.

I don’t think I’ve read “Spiggy Holes” myself, but one of our teachers read it to us and I seem to remember liking it as a child.
“Good Work Secret Seven” is also one of my favourites in the series and it has some memorable scenes. Quite a classic example of these books.

Some good points made by Poppy in the George, Lotta, Darrell piece that discussed their similarities and differences. Just thinking about differences, I think Darrell would be the only one who would make it as a head girl.

Interesting article on collecting by John and I’m glad there’s another one to come. I also didn’t realise a lot of adults still liked to read these books when I started collecting.

The Beaney lecture sounded very interesting - it’s great to get an insight into these sort of talks, the like of which most of us based overseas will never be able to attend.
I also enjoyed the descriptions of the second hand shops and autumnal landscape in Freda Knight’s “autumn trip” article.

I did indeed ' sort it out' and I received it last Tuesday. I was on my way to an opticians appointment when it arrived. So I knew -when I recognised the envelope. at a brief glance, that I had no worries about my eyesight...
