Journal 42
I see that Journal 42 has now appeared on the 'Journal' page...and the contents look as mouth-watering as usual, especially another review and photos of the 'Day' for those of us unlucky enough not to be there this year.
Some of the titles of the articles are very intriguing, too!

Re: Journal 42
The journal looks like another interesting read heading our way. What a lovely picture on the front cover. Good choice. (What was wrong with the one of me and Dick Kirrin? )
Don't want to rub it in, Robert. But you missed a lovely Day.

As always Journal 42 looks like a thoroughly rivetting read. Cant wait for it to arrive. Thats a smashing cover photo, the joyful expression on Susan Sheridan's face really brings alive that wickedly funny presentation she gave.

Re: Journal 42
Journal 42 hasn't yet come back from the printers, but the envelopes are all ready and I thought it might be fun to see where they are going to end up. Most go to all corners of the UK, but 105 overseas ones go to 23 different countries as follows:-
Australia - 31
USA - 13
Germany - 11
Ireland - 9
Spain - 8
Netherlands - 5
New Zealand - 5
Canada - 3
South Africa - 2
Malaysia - 2
Switzerland - 2
Austria - 2
Portugal - 2
Indonesia - 1
UAE - 1
Thailand - 1
Bangladesh -1
India - 1
Denmark - 1
Sweden - 1
France - 1
Cyprus - 1
Hungary - 1
There are still over 100 people who haven't renewed their subscription, so these numbers may go up!

Re: Journal 42
Really interesting to read the breakdown, I wonder if they are all received by people native to each country or by English people who have moved abroad. If they are all non English people that's great as it shows how widely Enid Blyton's books are appreciated around the world.
If you get the time/inclination I'd be intereted to see a similar breakdown for the UK. It would be interesting to see whether they show any kind of 'hot spots'.

Fascinating post, Tony. As with Katharine, I would like to see the UK breakdown - also Ireland's postboxes. My copy must travel the second shortest route in the dispatch programme!

Re: Journal 42
There are really too many to break down in the UK and I am not too sure how I would break it down anyway, but all four main countries are represented and we also have a few unusual ones, Orkney, Shetlands, Anglesey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, to just name five. I should have said in my first post that 'Ireland' means Eire or the Republic of Ireland and there are also several under Northern Ireland, which of course counts as the UK for postage.

Re: Journal 42
I'm a little surprised, but gratified, to see 13 going to the USA. This is a country where Blyton never really took off. I also wonder if many of the overseas journals go to Brits abroad or natives of those countries. I am amazed to see that one goes to Hungary. That was a communist country in Enid's day. Would they really have been allowed to become Blyton fans?
Anyway it is a tribute to Tony's organisation and the quality of the Journal's writing that it is enjoyed by so many people all over the world as well as even the remotest corners of the UK. Long live the Journal.

Also, I've just realised that Australian members would be getting the 'Summer' Journal in the winter and the 'Winter' Journal in the summer!

Re: Journal 42
Stats can be misleading and I am not sure how many of those going to the USA are going to Americans - I suspect that some are going to ex pats from Blyton reading countries like the UK and India! Certainly the one going to Hungary is going to somebody with a very English sounding name!Lucky Star wrote:I'm a little surprised, but gratified, to see 13 going to the USA.
