Some great selections there, Pete, but I do agree with Anita about Rubadub. This series does need to be read in order to be fully appreciated. I was lucky in that I read all the major adventure and mystery series as a child and I never tire of them.

Perhaps it would be better for Freddy to read Rockingdown first. It's a first rate story and I'm sure Freddy would really enjoy it - I envy him a bit that he hasn't read it yet!!!

Pete,i have just came across a 1st edition hardback copy from 1949 of The Rockingdown Mystery for £7.99 from e-bay and have ordered The Rilloby Fair Mystery as well.

I'm glad someone buys the Barney Mystery series these days! I've had all titles listed for over a year (£10 - £12 each with DW - not first edition though) with no takers.

They are some of the hardest books to shift!

Just this week I haven't done badly at all - sold a 1949 edition of 'Hollow Tree House' today (no dust wrapper - £8) - which I only listed last night...plus a copy of 'The Three Golliwogs' (Dean glazed boards - £15 - only listed last night) and 'The Valley of Adventure' - 1955 - no wrapper - £6.50). So not doing too bad!

That's really great Freddy - I can't wait to hear what you think of The Barney Books. They are very moving if you read them all in the correct order as has already been mentioned.

The Barney mysteries are my favourite series of Enid's. They have drama, suspense, humour, whimsy and emotion. I hope you enjoy reading them Freddy, as much as I do.

Hia,i was a huge fan on the Famous Fives as a kid in the 70 and had a full set of the books all with the 70's tv covers on them,i left primary school in 1980 and had left all the books behind and never went back for them,i bought a full new set last year about March and read them all again for the 1st time since primary school,these ones tho have updated text,when in shops they are paying for goods with pound coins,they have a five pound note in one of the books and in another there is reference to a Ford Fiesta,this spoiled it for me as I want to read what I did as a kid,beginning of this year a bought a full set with the 70's tv covers and have enjoyed reading them immensely,few months ago I bought a full hardback set just so I could have a hardback set,also have both the 70's and 90's series on dvd and got both the Childrens Film Foundation films as well

Thats really nice.I too love the TV series photo covers and also the digit 5 covers .

Made late 1950's, early 1960's - Five On A Treasure Island - in several episodes - and Five Have A Mystery To Solve. They were shown as serials in the cinema. They can both be bought on DVD.

As Rob says they were 2 films made in the 50's and 60's,Five On A Treasure Island made in 1957 and Five Have A Mystery To Solve made in 1964,Treasure Island is a brilliant film and stays fairly close to the book while Mystery To Solve really strays away from the book and I always lose interest while watching it,still good films to have to add to the collection though,both can be bought new on e-bay for under £10
