Re: Rockingdown Mystery - mystery of the strange illustratio
Mr King looks very slim and trim in this picture I always imagine him to be more stocky and solids looking!
I always think of him as looking like this - (this is a character from Miss Marple and played by Sean Pertwee but he is exactly as I imagine Mr King to look )

In this illustration, earlier in the book, he seems a bit more stocky - which is why I thought the later illustration was from an entirely different novel!!

I'll warm me with your echoes

Yes, you're right, he definitely looks more stocky in that one, definitely more like a detective (even though he's in disguise and trying NOT to look like one!)

Hi everybody!
I've checked my spanish copies..
I own 1958 (1st ed.) and 1964 (2nd), and the both with picture of Mr. King and the children.
So, I'll need get one copy of UK 1st edition to have torchlight and plane picture..
Anyway, this is my E.B. favorite title, and someday like me find one copy, at reasonable price

Re: Rockingdown Mystery - mystery of the strange illustratio
Hello all .
Since this is the Barney mysteries being discussed here, can anybody shed light as to whether the Barney mysteries have the text altered ( at least I'd like to know particularly of he 1990 print ) Sorry I don't know how to attach a cover pic for reference
I have the copy of Rockingdown mystery in bluish colour with 'MYSTERY' written vertically on the right and left sides .It has no illustrations in it ( though Cave of books mentions it does ), which is another case for doubting the text is altered . Generally the old illustrations printed would signify that text has remained same .
I know Famous five n Secret seven n faraway tree altered editions ..but what about Barneys ?

Is it just my PC but I cannot see the illustration that Rob is referring to ? I just have a wee box that says image and i have tried to load it but nothing appears. Can anyone help me as I would like to see what the alternative illustration is to chapter 24. For what it is worth I like the original illustration even though it is very dark. I feel it is very atmospheric.

Yes, I can't see the pic either Irene. I wonder if someone else could repost it here for us?

They do look similar, Pete!
Frustratingly, if the image is removed from the picture-hosting site it also disappears from the forums.Irene Malory Towers wrote: ↑18 Nov 2022, 10:00Is it just my PC but I cannot see the illustration that Rob is referring to ? Anita, that's one of the reasons why I believe the forum should utilise the facility for members to upload their images to the forum server rather than having to upload to an external website and then have to link to it. It would make life a lot easier for members. File sizes and number of images per post can be limited to whatever the webmaster wishes to.Anita Bensoussane wrote: ↑18 Nov 2022, 22:32Frustratingly, if the image is removed from the picture-hosting site it also disappears from the forums.Irene Malory Towers wrote: ↑18 Nov 2022, 10:00Is it just my PC but I cannot see the illustration that Rob is referring to ? We did approach Keith about that, but unfortunately it turned out that it wasn't feasible.

I don't understand why, as this forum uses the same software (phpBB) that I use for mine.

I suppose it has something to do with available space and allowed bandwidth and transfer volume, and maybe even with legal responsibilities.

Re: Rockingdown Mystery - mystery of the strange illustration!
When we emailed Keith about it, he asked Tony and me to upload images directly to the forum server to see what would happen. We did so, and he said the space was filling up too quickly.

OH well the Rockingdown picture will have to rest in my imagination then. Thanks for trying though. I get the gist of the logistical problems although I am not good with iT but I have found that pictures take up a lot of space.
