Re: Books you didn't like?
I was already past the age of appreciating Noddy when he was "born". My children had a few of the books but sadly I never felt very drawn to the little man. I only dipped into one or two. In the past few years I have read right through some and can see how the stories would appeal to the very young.
I wasn't keen on "The Adventures of the Strange Ruby" which I first read only within the last 10 years. I can't quite put my finger on the reason though.

'Me thinks the lady doth protest too much' - c'mon, Anita - we all know you're a secret Noddy lover and probably you have a Noddy duvet cover and lampshade!!

I tried dyeing them black, but the blooming bells on Noddy's hat keep showing through!

Felt tip markers will solve that.

Perhaps I'll just treat myself to a new duvet cover and lampshade featuring something more grown up - like Paddington Bear or Harry Potter!

I generally enjoy all of Enid's work with the exception of the Noddy books and anything to do with golliwogs. As is quite commonly said also, I didn't think much of Banshee Towers in the FInd Outers series and Together Again in the FF.

Re: Books you didn't like?
I have never really liked Banshee Towers, and that's the reason why I did not wanted to continue reading Enid Blyton books when I was small. (OK, this is so embarrassing to say). It's isn't as good as the other FFO books. Apart from that, I like them all.

Re: Books you didn't like?
Forgot about Adrian Mole trying to paint out Noddy's bells! Made me chuckle! Noddy - love or hate him, he won't go away!
Yes, I think it is definitely just me that likes Banshee Towers lol! I think I'm going to have to re-read it - has been awhile and you never know my view might change. Hope it doesn't though!
Cheers,
Lex

Re: Books you didn't like?
I must admit I'm getting terribly tempted to start a Noddy Appreciation Thread for all those of us who love the little nodding man (and with no offence meant to those who don't). If we don't already have one, of course. Who's with me? (Anyone??)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Books you didn't like?
I definitely appreciate Noddy - and as a child I was pretty much obsessed by not only him but all the other characters, lol! I think I've mentioned before that I had Noddy and Big Ears and Noddy's car and Pink Cat and a few other Noddy figures, and I made my own 'Toy Village' on a big board, with box houses and Big Ears's toadstool house made out of a toilet roll and a cone of paper! I also compiled two or three 'Noddy Annuals' with my own drawings and puzzles in them.
These days I have a whole cupboard full of 'Noddy' merchandise...though some of it is quite modern and most of it was bought for me as people knew I collected Noddy items. I'm not as mad on Noddy as I was, but I really can't understand everyone's intense dislike of the poor guy - after all, he is a part of Enid Blyton!

Good idea, Courtney! My daughter would be with you, anyway - she absolutely loves Noddy!
And I say we also put forward the motion of a Banshee Towers Appreciation Society too - then all will be right with the world!
Cheers,
Lex

Right, then. Do you think we dare ask Anita to split these last few posts off to start the thread, since we all know she's such a big fan of Noddy as well...?LexFraser wrote:Good idea, Courtney! My daughter would be with you, anyway - she absolutely loves Noddy!

Re: Books you didn't like?
I don't actively dislike Noddy. I just have no interest in him. I very much appreciate his part in the Blyton legacy and the fact that even today he is probably responsible for bringing in new young fans all the time. I do think it's a pity that he gets so much attention though. Much more than other more deserving characters. And especially given that much of what's out there today was not even written by Blyton.
