The Buttercup Story Book

Is there a reason why this is so much harder to find than the other flower books? Been looking about for a copy and can't find one anywhere :(

Not sophisticated, I'm the sweet and simple kind
I want an old fashioned house, with an old fashioned fence

The Buttercup Storybook is fairly hard to find, I agree. I eventually found a copy a few years ago, without a dust wrapper...but I have yet to find a copy of The Snowdrop Story Book - which is, I think, the hardest to find of all of them! :D
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

The Snowdrop Book was the last one that I managed to find too, Rob. In good wrappers, the first five books are all difficult to find and this is the reason that I don't show the wraparound covers for the first four in the Cave, my wrappers are just not good enough. As you probably know the publishers, John Gifford, were actually the publishers for Foyle's and I have often wondered whether it was only possible to buy these books in Foyles, which at that time would have really just been in London.

I've got four of the 'flower storybooks' Daffodil, Bluebell, Buttercup and Marigold. Daffodil is a later reprint with pictorial boards and a lot of the original contents missing. but it only cost me £2.75. The other three are without dustwrappers, and cost £2.99, £4.74 and £7.75 each. I got them all a few years ago from different eBay sellers and have had no luck whatsoever getting any of the other books.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I have all the 'Gifford' versions apart from 'Snowdrop' and two of the abridged glazed cover versions - Bluebell and Daffodil - but I find the latter two a bit disappointing - very garish, and with half the content missing, as you say. The originals are by far the best. :-D

The Snowdrop Story Book is for sale on eBay - but no dust wrapper, fairly tatty boards and its over £30...so I think I'll keep looking a little longer!
