John Pickup wrote:Further to my receiving the Magazine Annual No 3 for Christmas I bought a lovely copy of the Magazine Annual No 2 off ebay which arrived today. I already had No 4 but a decent copy of No 1 is proving elusive.
I like these annuals as they contain short stories of the Famous Five and Secret Seven which I wouldn't otherwise have seen.

The dw is in a good condition, John. :D

Wandering around Swansea, I've managed to complete my Malory Towers series by finding 'Second Form'. Not bad considering I didn't have MT books at the start of the year, and I found five of the six books in a city about 160 miles from where I live!

That's great Stephen! I find it funny how one minute you can have none or only one book in a series, then as you decide to make a concentrated effort to complete the set, the others suddenly just seem to appear most conveniently!

I'm still not really buying books at the moment but I managed to get a copy of the Tenth Holiday Book in a very good wrapper for £3.75. I have been after this one for months, as the only copy online is £75 ! Just no3 left to go now. The seller I got it from is A1books&bygones on ebay, very helpful chap whose service is excellent, highly recommend him :D .

Yesterday I 'won' The Ninth Bedside Book in a dust wrapper, along with a 1960's version of Tales After Supper. It did cost me about £24.59...but I know bedside Books with wrappers are particularly hard to come by - and I don't have the Ninth one, even without a wrapper, so I was happy to pay up to £25.

In fact, had the other bidder (hope it wasn't anyone here!!) gone over £25 even by a penny, they would have won, as my top bid was £25 and I wasn't in at the time the bidding ended.

I had promised myself not to buy any books or DVDs in March...;-)

How's this for a stroke of luck? Yesterday, on the 'What Enid Blyton Book Are You Reading Right NOW?' thread, I pointed out that my copies of 'The Ragamuffin Mystery' and 'The Mountain of Adventure' were in tatters with pages missing, and were therefore pretty unreadable. But this morning, moseying around Beaconsfield, I bought BOTH books in the same charity shop (not the same editions but hopefully that won't make too much difference). There were quite a few Blytons in there, but unfortunately I didn't have much cash on me at the time. I had already bought the first three in the St Clare's series from another shop.

It's almost as if Enid Blyton had some sort of connection with this town! :)

Well done, Rob and Stephen! :D

Your binge reading of Enid Blyton’s books one after another has inspired me to read her books more often. :D

I went to my favourite second-hand book shop today and bought 2 Blyton books. A 1950 edition of "The Adventurous Four" with a rather tatty dust wrapper - my own copy lost the cover years ago and the spine is badly damaged, and a book of I haven't read before - a 1949 re-issue of "Three Boys and a Circus", so the first edition under the Enid Blyton name. The illustrator is Grace Lodge.

Thanks Sixret, It's always nice to have some new books to read, as well as enjoying the well-loved and much re-read old ones!

I'm meant to be cutting back this month - my own decision - but have bought two Blyton books. The first was The Ninth Bedside Book with wrapper - really good condition and I'm enjoying reading it. Then yesterday I 'won' The Green Story Book - 1953 edition with a good wrapper. These 'colour' story books are always hard to find in wrappers. I now have The Blue and The Green in wrappers, so just the Red and Yellow to find (I have them both without wrappers already). I know the Yellow Story Book is the hardest to find in a wrapper for a good price! :D

Well done, Rob! :D

I was determined not to buy more books but I have bought the book below because the price was too good to be ignored. £4.99.

It is one of the most difficult EB’s books to find on internet.

Thats a really good price, Sixret!

Like you, I only bought The Ninth Bedside Book and The reen Story Book because I didn't have them in wrappers, and the prices were good - especially The Green Story Book - which was only £7.16 with a DW. :D
