Well done, Wolfgang and John! :D

I notice that Spiggy Holes from World of Rare Books has ended. Have you bought it, Rob?

Just bought TALES OF BRER RABBIT RETOLD (NO. 2) in Nelson Reading Practice for £1. It's tatty but the pages are all intact. This was the first time it appeared in online market so I can't complain much.

Today "The secret if Cliff Castle" ,Werner Laurie Limited, 1951, arrived. It seems to have the original text unabridged. DW is a bit damaged, though.

I bought a reprint of The Zoo Book for £10, and not a Blyton, but related, The Princess and the Goblin by George McDonald. It's a "Watergate Classics" edition from the 40s so not what Blyton would have had in her hands but it was only £9.50 (jeez I nearly put £950 then!!) and has about 95% of a dustjacket. I'm interested to read it and see if/how it influenced her.

I'll be interested to see what you think of it Fiona. I read it a couple of years ago, but can't remember a lot about it, so time for a re-read I think. :D

I have a copy of The Princess and the Goblin which I bought purely because I knew it was Enid's favourite book, but I still haven't read it yet!

Its the Collins Seagull version, with dust jacket -

Here's mine. I have no idea when I'll get around to reading it. I brought a pile of books on holiday this week and have barely read a thing as I've just been too tired!

If you enjoy The Princess and the Goblin, Fiona try the sequel The Princess and Curdie. The first book is brilliant but the second is even better.

I read both books quite a long time ago and remember finding the second one more mournful and rather chilling, though I've forgotten the details now. Enid Blyton mentioned The Princess and Curdie in an article which was reprinted in Journal 55, so it seems that both titles made a great impression on her.

Francis wrote:Well I really surprised myself by buying 'Five go Adventuring Again' yet again - still it was a 'first' in excellent condition although no dust wrapper. I should really have bought 'The Secret of Spiggy Holes' as well (1942 edition) but left it for another day. There is really nowhere like Alton!
Great find, Francis :)!
I love the winter stories in the FF and Secret Seven series. Not to forget to mention "Rat-a-Tat Mystery".
