I think this is preparing me for when he is! I've had a cold and a stuffy nose all week which has meant I've struggled to sleep even more than usual (and that's before you factor in the large crow that tapped loudly on the windows 2-3 times a morning from 5am!!)Katharine wrote:

"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

It's a good stand alone novel if you can get over EB's extreme use of the term "queer"!Wolfgang wrote:Today "The secret if Cliff Castle" ,Werner Laurie Limited, 1951, arrived. It seems to have the original text unabridged. DW is a bit damaged, though.
My red hardcover copy is from 1953, published by Werner Laurie, illustrated by G. Brook (92 pages). No dust wrapper, but I'll ask my husband to create one for me once we'll have settled down in a few weeks...
The illustration on page 12 indeed gives the illusion that the castle is very close (I've followed the discussion in the Smuggler Ben/Cliff Castle readathon yesterday).
To answer your previous question from early May: we had no time in Paris to go into a bookstore, only Shakespeare & Company at Rue de la Bucherie near Quai Montebello which has no children's books (however, the bouquinistes at Quai Montebello were open this time (in 2008 they were closed in the morning) and I found two old street maps of Paris from the 1500's and an older one.
But we went into two bookstores in Tours at the Loire where we stayed for 12 nights. Unfortunately they had no EB books at all, so all I bought on this trip was "L'encyclopédia Delon" by Patrice Leconte (2016), a gorgeous hardcover book on French actor Alain Delon whose many crime movies I've watched since March in an unsuccessful attempt to brush up my French .
And another coffee table book with aerial views from the Loire castles called "Over the Turrets of the Loire Valley Châteaux" (Arnaud Chicurel). It contains all 11 castles which we've visited plus a few more.

Not a book, and not recently, but I've just discovered a Noddy jigsaw I bought from Viv's Ginger Pop shop a couple of yeas ago. It's this one:-

Aw, that's cute! I'm not sure how long it will keep you occupied though!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I've heard that joke before (a similar version, anyway) but it's a good'un!

Thanks to Sixret I've now got a copy of the Ninth Bedside Book . A good price too as most of these books don't seem to be too cheap even without a dj. It's a pity they weren't all done with pictorial boards like the fourth one. Is there a reason for that anyway, it seems a bit random to give one book in a series completely different boards?

Today arrived Le Mystère de la fête foraine, Hachette idéal, 1978, The Mystery of the Missing Man.
While I have all Mystery books in French by now, I have only 13 ones published by "idéal bibliothèque". Well, maybe I'll find the missing two for a reasonable price in the near or far future...

The titles are "Le Mystère de la maison des bois" (The Mystery of the Hidden House) and "Le Mystère du camion fantôme" (The Mystery of Holly Lane). I have editions of these two books, but not by idéal bibliothèque. I'm also looking for "Deux Jumelles et Deux Somnambules" (Fifth Formers at St Clare's) and "Un cheval à Malory school" (Third Year at Malory Towers). The Malory book wasn't published by idéal bibliothèque, but I'd still like to have a hard cover version, so far I've only got a soft cover edition.

A copy of the sixth bedside book for £6. I didn't want to pay a lot for this for I already have this book as it was my Auntie's, but some nitwit pulled out the last pages of nearly every story . Be nice to finally read the endings at long last!
Also a copy of Rubbalong Tales in a good wrapper for £10 (I literally paid for my own stupidity on this as I'd have got it for £3 if I hadn't forgot about it until five minutes after it ended ) and the first 48 issues of the EB magazine off a lovely seller on here .
