Never mind Fiona. At two quid it's still a bargain.

I knew beforehand that it was a strange selection but as you say for £2 you can hardly complain! I have all the originals already I just wanted to see how these ones had been edited/butchered for a new edition.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

That's a shame - and a bit odd! My Omnibus edition from a few years ago has all of them - although like you I also have the originals. :-D

Still - a bargain is a bargain!

I got the first 44 issues of the journal on eBay yesterday so I can start from the very beginning :P . I'm going to get the others through here though I've noticed four are sold out, is there any way to get hold of those?

From what I can see 45, 52,57 & 59 are sold out.

Also after looking that up I've just noticed that the first 8 are different colours to the picture in the ones I won. Is there a difference between them?

Not yet, these ones are the first 44 all of which it's saying are sold out otherwise I would have done. I found these on eBay and took them as it seemed likely the only way to get those issues. I will buy the others from here though.

I have just bought a rather nice copy of Run-About's Holiday, 3rd impression 1966 but with a dust-jacket, not expensive either. I've never read this book or even come across a copy before so I'm glad to have it.

Kate Mary, Run-Abouts Holiday is a lovely story. I had the book a long time but hadn't read it until I read it to my granddaughter when she was 6, she really loved it. I really like the dustwrapper on this book.

Yes - Runabout's Holiday is quite an interesting book, and fairly unusual too!

I'm currently reading 'The Queer Adventure' (wish I could get The Yellow Fairy Book but so far its eluded me!) and I've come to the conclusion that Enid's fantasy books are really one of her major strengths. The Queer Adventure is so very creative - as are her other fantasy books like The Wishing Chair, Faraway Tree and lesser known ones like Feefo Tuppeny and Jinks etc.

I highly recommend The Queer Adventure - although I'm puzzled as to why it wasn't called 'The Strange Adventure' as this is the phrase used in the first line of the first chapter!!

Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Well I really surprised myself by buying 'Five go Adventuring Again' yet again - still it was a 'first' in excellent condition although no dust wrapper. I should really have bought 'The Secret of Spiggy Holes' as well (1942 edition) but left it for another day. There is really nowhere like Alton!

A good buy, Francis. :D Five Go Adventuring Again has always been a favourite of mine and is very underrated in my opinion.
