Just received 'The Troublesome Three' - a book I already have, but this one only cost me 99p plus postage. Now I have to decide which one I keep! My own copy has a better cover, but not such clear printing inside...the 'new' copy has a rubbed cover but is really clearly printed inside! One I will sell and one I will keep, lol!

I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

I bet you'll keep them both - one for the nice cover and one for the printing!

As part of my continuing ambition to own at least one example of everything Enid appeared in as a contributor, I bought the 1958 TV Comic annual today - which features two Noddy stories and two Bom stories! :-D

Rob Houghton wrote:The Mystery That Never Was is another EB book I'm not overly keen on...though I rate it higher than 'The Hidey Hole'. It was probably the last EB book I read as a child (aged 13) and I just presumed I was 'too grown-up' for Enid Blyton. I didn't read another one for about 10 years.
When I read this comment, I thought that the Hidey-Hole was a title I was unfamiliar with, and made a mental note to look out for a copy.

This morning I was having a tidy up, and came across a paper bag which I knew contained some books I'd bought a little while ago. One was Let's Garden, the other was a paper back of The Hidey-Hole. I don't remember buying either book!

Now I just need to get around to reading them both. :D

 I'd love to be in your position, Katharine - always unearthing books still in bags that you forgot you bought! :D

@Amelia Jane Again' - with very good dust jacket - £10.00. I didn't have this in a dust jacket, so I'm pleased to be able to 'upgrade' the copy I have, which is without a jacket...but I do wish there was a law against sellers listing their books as 'First edition' as this one was listed. I've talked about it before, I know...and been shot down in flames, lol - but I object to every book being listed as 'FIRST EDITION (4th imp). I wasn't taken in, but some people might be.

I don't get how practically any edition that is original in illustrations and DW etc can be called 'First Edition'. By that way of thinking, I have an almost complete collection of 'First Edition' Blyton books.

In fact the Amelia Jane books get misrepresented more than any, as Dean chose to put the 1st edition dates in their editions and a lot of ignorant sellers seem to think that the Dean editions really were published in the 1940s! :D

Mine is the 'proper' version! ;-)

1959 edition. 8)

I already have it in the 1951 ed, with no wrapper, and the Dean version with a wrapper!

Congratulation Katharine and Rob! :D

I have two copies of Amelia Jane again, First Edition 1946(on the right) and Second Edition 1951(on the left).

As you can see, the spine of the books are different. I find it odd!

After reading Rob's comment, I quickly searched for Naughty Amelia Jane first edition. One of the four titles that I still don't have the first edition. Lo and behold, I found it in a matter of minutes of searching! Just £20 including postage to Malaysia! Below are the photos of the books sent by the seller.

I already have two copies in the photo below, ninth impression 1953(on the right) and tenth impression 1959(on the left). Both do not have frontis.

As you can see, the first edition of Naughty Amelia Jane has frontis, but the subsequent printings do not have frontis.

However my first edition Amelia Jane Again! does not have frontis.

I find this very odd!

For anyone who would like to buy, I notice there's one first edition of Amelia Jane Again complete with dust jacket in a decent condition on Ebay. £35 but can be reduced by giving the seller your best offer.

I think it was just the way many spines were at first, like the plain spines for the Famous Five books, and also for the Find Outers and others, such as The Rockingdown Mystery etc.

I quite often avoid the earlier editions because of this - for Find Outers, all my books have the wrap-around dust wrappers, as I dislike the plain spines where wrappers only had the picture on the front and not the back. The copy of Amelia Jane Again I bought has the decorated spine, obviously - which I prefer in many ways as they look much better on teh shelf! :-)
