I think that's very well done, Rob — not "sacrilege" at all. If I were buying that book, I'd far rather have it with a well-repaired wrapper like that than in its original condition. An excellent buy and good work.

Wow! Impressive jambo65. Any plans to collect the special Betty Maxey editions?
Would be lovely to see a few pics of all your collections when they arrive.

Hi Pete,i bought a set around Easter last year and read them for the 1st since 1980 when I left Primary School,i had a full set of the 70's tv covers then which I kept at school but on my last day there I forgot to to take them home and never went back for them, loved reading as a kid but it was the famous five which had me really hooked and none other's although I did read lots of other Blyton books.

The set of Famous Fives that I bought last year and some updated text in them, reference to a Ford Fiesta and the five when out shopping are paying for stuff in pound coins and so on,bought another set a few months ago all 70's books with 15 of them with the 70's tv covers, ordered the other 6 with the tv covers last night from individual sellers to give me a full set with tv covers and am expecting my full set of hardback ones to be delivered today or tomorrow, got those from e-bay all in excellent condition with most of them never even been read for £31 with free postage which is a real bargain, not sure when these ones were printed or of they have any updated text or not but wanted a hardback set.

My aim would be to have an entire set of hardback 1st editions but these would be mega rare I would think and also very expensive :-)

I must admit, if it was easy to get all the Betty Maxey Famous Fives in hard covers, I'd probably collect them. The paperback versions are usually ridiculously priced, in my opinion. I've seen a few single Betty Maxey hardbacks - but if I was serious about collecting them, they would all have to have internal B.M illustrations rather than by Eileen Soper as many paperbacks did. :D

Thanks Courtenay. As its very rare to see any kind of a wrapper on a Bom Annual, I think I'm quite happy to have it, even if I mended it! :-D

I'm impressed by your repair too, Rob. The pieces at the top of the wrapper could now pass as clouds. A good buy.

I bought some books today on eBay that I didn't think I would 'win' for a moment!

I bid on two sets of books - the first was four books - including a copy of 'Hollow Tree House' in a good dust jacket (except for one tear which will be easily mended), a Dean edition of The Three Golliwogs (glazed boards), a Dean edition of The Sunshine book (glazed boards) and a Holiday book with no DW.

I won them with just one bid - £4.99.

the second set of three books I won were - Five go off to Camp - with white spine DW in good condition, Five Go Adventuring Again with good DW - 1950's edition, and a first edition of Enid Blyton's Omnibus with a very good wrapper.

These cost only £6.00! :-D

I already have all these books, but will replace my wrapperless version of Hollow Tree House with this new one, plus my Omnibus, which has a slightly less good wrapper than the one I won. I'll probably also keep Five Go Off To Camp in the white spine version, as I am collecting the white spine editions as an extra Famous Five set ( my complete set is with illustrated spines) The other books I won I will probably sell - but I still think I got a few bargains! :-)

Amazing, Pete. Who would want books in such poor condition?

Yes, they do, don't they?? Well, at least the seller hasn't decided that "first edition" means they should go for three-figure (if not four-figure) prices each regardless of condition... :x

Well done, Freddy and Rob!

Unbelievable! I bet the one who has put his bid would win the auction! :D
