I agree on both counts - for some reason its one book that is difficult to sell on eBay.Eddie Muir wrote:A good buy, Francis. Five Go Adventuring Again has always been a favourite of mine and is very underrated in my opinion.

It is one of my favourites as well, Eddie, and it dates back to the early 1940s when Enid was just about to reach her peak.

I find that quite interesting. I guess Enid's 'peak' comes at different times to different people. I've never really thought of her peak as being so early.
For me, Enid's peak was around 1947 - 1955 when she wrote Five Get Into Trouble, On A Hike Together, Valley of Adventure, Sea of Adventure, Circus of Adventure, Rubadub Mystery, Holiday House etc.
Mind you - most years between 1940 - and 1960 were 'enid's peak' in some ways!

I agree that 1947-1955 saw Enid reach full maturity but the early 1940s was a period when she started some of her most iconic series - notably the 'Famous Five' and 'Adventure' series (my favourites!).

I agree - although I say 1947 - 1955, of course, for me (and most of us fans!) every year has a peak of some sort! 1937 has to be one for me - as it was when the Adventures of the Wishing Chair was written, and then 1938 for The Secret Island and 1939 for The Enchanted Wood...and so on!

Enid was amazing - so many wonderful books and outstanding years. She was truly a phenomenon.

I snapped up that copy of The Troublesome Three that someone pointed out was on eBay. Cheers whoever that was!

Well done, Fiona. One for the new lad, once he's old enough?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

If I can teach him to be gentle with books, definitely

The only old books that I own that are in very good condition were originally bought for girls!

Oh dear. That doesn't bode well! Mind you, my niece loves books but unfortunately is very rough with them so there are exceptions to the rule!

I am sure you were very careful with your books when you were young, Fiona, so I am sure your child will inherit your qualities (don't tell Nigel - he will think I am being a creep again!).

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
I was pretty careful (apart from losing the dustjacket from Five Go To Smuggler's Top ). Thankfully I didn't inherit my mother's liking for colouring in illustrations with felt-pen/scribbling on endpapers .

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
Half my childhood books have the puzzles done, things to make pages cut out, illustrations coloured in with felt pens etc. I even added my own drawing of an imp to the end papers of a Rupert annual - annoyingly! By the time I was 12 or 13 I was completely the opposite, though, and kept my books in very good condition. But as a child I was very bad!!
I do think it shows how much I loved the books though. I really did want to 'get inside them' and become a part of them somehow, and colouring illustrations is a way to achieve this.
