A truly superb collection, Rob.

Thank you, Sixret, Anita and Nigel. It seems to be growing every week!Anita Bensoussane wrote:A wonderful collection, Rob! I always think the Secret Sevens and Dean & Son books look particularly scrumplicious with their colourful pictorial spines.
I agree, Anita - the Secret Seven and dean books have particularly good spines!

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
There are some very interesting bookcases in the photographs on this thread. I’m wondering if they are made to measure or ready made. I have a number of different bookcases, but the majority of mine are IKEA Billy cases. I seem to recall that you have some of these Anita. See link below. I’d be interested to hear where other forumites buy their bookcases or if they have them made or if they make their own.

Glad you like my books, Eddie!
My book cases are 'made to measure' - some shelves bigger (taller) than others etc. I have my dad to thank for mine - he made them all.

I bought my bookcases from Argos but I can't remember how much I paid for them. The way things are going I shall soon have to buy some more.

Thank you for your interesting responses, Rob and John. Your dad is obviously a talented carpenter, Rob.

He is! he built all the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen, all the bookshelves, and other shelves in the spare bedroom where I keep all my musical DVDs (I have about 500 Hollywood musicals!) He's very practical - unlike me!

That’s great, Rob. Was your dad a carpenter by trade or did he work with wood as a hobby?

Just a hobby. He was an electrician by trade.

How wonderful to have such a skill as a hobby.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
I sometimes wish I was more practical about the house. I would have loved to have built a customized library with shelves to match the differing sizes of book but I would be frightened of the whole lot falling off the wall and ruining the books.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
My bookcases were (like John's) bought from Argos but they were then subsequently hacked and beaten into the various shapes I needed to fit the various nooks and crannys I had to force them into. In fact I think I mentioned on here before how I had to build a new bookcase to house my copy of "The Plays The Thing'...

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
I wish I dare hack mine to give me more room for another shelf, for example.... I begrudge the gap between the shelves when a close fit would make room for another! Good to see you Walter.

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!
Eddie mentioned IKEA Billy bookcases. They are the best because the shelves are moveable. My bookcases are all Billy and the shelves are regularly re-positioned so I can fit the most books on them, by being able to have all the small books together on one or two shelves I have managed to add a couple of extra shelves on some of the bookcases.

I agree, Sue. IKEA Billy bookcases are excellent. I believe Anita also uses them.
