Why are Blyton's books so delightfully escapist?

In that photo Nigel reminds me of this character on the left - but he needs a piece of straw in his mouth! ;-) :lol:

J R R Tolkien (another favorite author for many of us who enjoy "escapist" literature) once pointed out that the only people who are against "escape" are jailers.
