Secret Seven Readathon for Bonfire Night

Post by Anita Bensoussane »

Bonfire Night is coming up in about three weeks or so (on Friday 5th November) so I was wondering whether anyone would be interested in a Readathon on the two Secret Seven books which revolve around Bonfire Night - Good Work Secret Seven and Secret Seven Fireworks? We could throw out our thoughts on the two books, starting on 5th November, and reflect on Bonfire Night as celebrated back in the 1950s and now. Anyway, it's just an idea.

Sounds good - I'm up for it!

By the way, someone came into the shop yesterday wanting to know which SS book had the character Stumpy Dick.

I've concluded that if that question had been asked at the beginning of April, I'd have been well fooled, having spent some time going through all the books. Unless someone here knows different

I know there was a 'one leg William' in 'S.S.Adventure'... :?

I'd be up for a Bonfire Night readathon: two of my favourite SS books actually! Somehow the autumn ones have a really good atmosphere. :D

Stumpy Dick does ring a bell, but I wouldn't be able to name the book.

Count me in too although I'll be away from the 19th till the 27th. But those two books are classic evocations of the whole Halloween and Bonfire night occasions. Super idea Anita. :D

Count me in.

SS Fireworks is one of my favourite SS stories and a re-read is long over due.

I'm sure some people would know it but I resorted to checking Eva Rice's Who's Who in Enid Blyton  and found out that he appears (sort of!) in Secret Seven on the Trail. Eva writes, "Stumpy Dick and Twisty Tom are merely figments of Susie's imagination and she is unaware that her silly idea of pretending that her gang, the Famous Five, is on their track will lead the Secret Seven to a real adventure".

Thanks Anita :D

I was beginning to think that he was in the realms of the Captain Pugwash character Roger the cabin boy

You can join in with the discussion on just that title if you like, or try to get hold of the other book before November 5th!
