Are you a member of the Famous Five Club?
Do you have the Famous Five badge?

As I think the lines were printed in the back of some copies of the books?

I remember sending off my postal order in anticipation. I remember not actually understanding what a postal order was and having to ask my father!

I never wore the badge of course, it was far too precious!

Yes I joined in 1975,just before our very hot British Summer in '76!...

I can still remember the thrill of the letter arriving and opening it and the touch and feel of the badge....also came runner up in a milk marketing board competition in the same week....exciting times!! :D

Regards

Pete

I joined the Famous Five Club in 1953 when I first bought Enid Blyton's Magazine, which was published fortnightly from March of that year. I also joined the Magazine Club and the Busy Bees at the same time. Sadly, I no longer have my badges.

That makes three of us. I also joined round about 1952/3, no longer have the badge and never saw anyone else wearing one whenever I wore mine.

I joined the Famous Five Club circa 1962 and still have my badge.

My Mother was a member of The Wilfredian League of Gugnuncs (from the Pip, Squeak and Wilfred stories in the Daily Mirror) and I used to wear her badge as a child but sadly, I lost it years ago and they are worth a fortune now! However I still remember the words of the League song which she taught me, does anyone want to see them? It is a good job we don't have audio on the forums or I might be tempted to sing it and then you'd all be sorry.

Kate

Those lines were printed in my Knight paperbacks but for some reason I never did join the Club. I used to save up my pocket money to buy books, so probably decided I couldn't spare any for a badge!

Go on then, Kate Mary - let's have the words of that League song! :)

OK here goes:-

Gug Gug Nunc Nunc
Gugnuncs merry are we
We sing this song for we all belong
To the W.L.O.G.

Stand by friends all,
Members merry and free,
For hand in hand goes the gugly band
Of the W.L.O.G.

Nunc Nunc Wilf Wilf
To Wilf we bend the knee,
To Wilf we sing, to our gugly king
Of the W.L.O.G.

Gug Gug Nunc Nunc
To friends of all degree
give gugly hugs to the Nuncly Gugs
Of the W.L.O.G.

The Wilfredian League of Gugnuncs had gatherings like our Enid Blyton Day, but they were so immensely popular that they were held in the Royal Albert Hall and were broadcast by the BBC!
