What a shame. If only we could reach back into the past & retrieve such items! I'd loved to have seen the letter.Moonraker wrote:Long gone, sadly, number 6.

Yes, it certainly was drab & uninspiring, Anita. I had the misfortune to walk past the building when I was 12, whilst visiting London with my parents. Imagine my disappointment when I arrived & first set eyes on the place! I imagined a grand building. Of course there wasn't the Internet to look up such things like this, so I didn't know what to expect!Anita Bensoussane wrote:Thanks for photographing the items, Number 6. I don't think I'd seen notepaper with the Darrell Waters Ltd. address before - Lee House, London Wall. I've just looked up Lee House and it was a large, drab tower block which was demolished in 1986 - to be replaced by more tower blocks!
What you probably couldn't make out on info sheet I posted, were the directors names. Gillian Baverstock & Imogen Smallwood were two of them!
I've still got other info sheets from the F5 club with Darrell Waters Ltd head note on them, inc the 1978 F5 cast birthdays. I never threw things away when I was kid!

I knew of Gillian and Imogen's involvement but you're right that I wasn't able to make out their names on the information sheet.
I can just imagine your disappointment on seeing the building, Number 6. As a child I'd have expected Lee House to be a mansion like the ones in some of Enid Blyton's books!

me too! I would have imagined a large building with Georgian windows and plenty of ivy growing over it!

I agree with both Anita & Rob. Something grander & more fitting with a traditional building was I imagined it, too. But alas, my imagination always ran away with itself...as was usually the case!

How can you find a picture of it in the Internet? I am just very curious to see it.

I imagine Anita just googled Lee house London Wall. I think it was one of three office tower blocks, if my memory serves me correctly. I may be wrong, as it was so long ago! The last time I saw the place was in 1979 on a visit to London. I haven't seen a photo of it prior to its demolition in the 80's, so it would be interesting to see one just to remind me of how ugly the building really was!

Yes, I Googled "Lee House London Wall" and found a photo on architecture.com. This was Lee House:

Thanks Anita. I also Googled it and saw that photo, but wasn't sure if that was the original building or the replacement!

Thanks Anita! It doesn't look at all pleasant, does it? It looks like the building I saw many years ago, so I guess this is the original Lee House that was a major disappointment to me. As I said before, it was a very long time ago.

I really didn't imagine the building like that! But I guess it looks fine, although not at all Blytonesque. Thanks Anita.
