I always like to take at least two,but more likely three to read whilst I'm away.
I shall be in Mid Wales (near The Himalayas) but I'm quite open to read absolutely anything!
Have a great trip to Wales, Pete!

My next EB book will be vol. 2 Five go adventuring again, then vol. 3 (one of my all-time favorite EB's) followed by vol. 4 (Smuggler's Top).

Thank you Chrissie - I like the sound of the Smuggler's Top recommendation too - I may even go mad and read the Eileen Soper edition!

I am determined to go away and have a quiet relaxing holiday with no adventures!!

ps.wrong thread, but was happy to hear your father in law was feeling better. That's great news!

Well, my next two should be the next two Naughtiest Girl books, but if I were going to Wales, I'd aim for something more stirringly adventurous, whateffer, look you!

Now if you want to brush up on your Welsh, I see a number of Famous Five short stories and Secret Seven books and even a few of the Faraway Tree chapters (the ones published as separate "short stories") are available in translation... :D (Interestingly, going by Google Translate, "Saith Selog" is literally "Zealous Seven" and "Pump Prysur" is "Busy Five".)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I'm planning to read 'Six o'clock Tales'!!

But I presume you mean a novel rather than short stories?

I'll warm me with your echoes

Now that is another great recommendation as it's a book I can't even remember ever reading and one I wouldn't have thought of! Thank you Rob.
That's two great books for holiday reading already - I'm getting excited now!

I'm just about to start The Adventurous Four, a nice Newnes copy that I've recently bought. You could do worse Pete.

I intend to re-read the Adventure series when I get the chance. The Castle of Adventure is a great book to read in Wales. It's set in Scotland, of course, but the rugged landscape and imposing castle could just as easily be in Wales. And there are no puffs of crimson smoke or deluded scientists working on anti-gravity wings!

I like the idea of both The Adventurous Four and The Castle Of Adventure - I don't think it would be a problem to take about half a dozen Blyton's with me.

Many thanks for the excellent suggestions.

Good idea Rob - I do have a large halfords roof box that could be fitted to our family sized estate car for excess baggage!

The place we stay is such a peaceful spot with a garden that literally joins the farmers field that we rarely do any driving about at all once we arrive.

A peaceful walk over the nearby stream to the old fashioned village shop that provides the Daily Express, home made Bara Brith, Sandwich Cakes and scones is all the exercise we need!

The locals are ever so friendly and always give us both the warmest of welcomes as this picture taken last Spring clearly shows.
