I could also remove the word from Sunskriti's post but then the posts following it wouldn't make sense. If Sunskriti could change it herself, at least then her post would show as "edited". As we've discussed before, it helps make the forums a pleasant place to be if we keep our language as Blytonian as possible (not that we have to pepper our posts liberally with "I say", "Rather!", "Blow!", etc.! )

By the way, I'm not getting at Sunskriti so I hope it doesn't come across that way. Words don't always have the same overtones in different countries anyway.

I agree - I shouldn't think it does have the same overtones. Really I was just being jokey. I don't mind what language people use, but I agree that sticking to Blytonian language is more fitting to the website!

Oh, I don't agree. The Ten Commandments have the same "overtones" globally for the world's Christians. It isn't just a word, to Christians the word denotes the Son of God.

I take your point but in some communities (probably in the UK too) it gets used quite casually in everyday conversation and people who have been exposed to that may not realise that it's offensive to others.

Course it doesn't come across that way, but yeah, we do say it rather casually around here, in fact that may also be because we're not Christians. (We being my family, not Indians in general.)

Oh dear, I keep getting in trouble for such things, but honestly it didn't strike me that it could be even remotely offensive, hmm... maybe I should check what else may count as blasphemy or be offensive.

I think we should all 'speak' using Julian's vocabulary - Dick is a bit too racy!

Just for the record, by the way, Sunskriti, I consider myself Christian and although I wouldn't use "Christ" as a swear word myself, I personally don't feel offended if others choose to. It's a pretty individual thing, I guess, what one considers acceptable or unacceptable.
