Tony Summerfield wrote:I have to admit my weakness on signed things is children's books, preferably first editions. Most of these are from current authors so they are not worth a fortune and simply cost the price of the book, but I have got some nice ones as well. One or two I picked up by accident without realising they were signed and it is also nice when the author has written personal messages inside. I bought a first edition of the first Wombles book and the shop owner apologised that someone had written a few lines on the endpapers and reduced the price which was cheap anyway - the 'someone' was Elizabeth Berrisford the author! :)
 Bet that shop owner wishes he'd gone to Specsavers!

Great find with the Wombles book, Tony. :D

I bought a 1995 first edition hardback copy of Keith Waterhouse's Streets Ahead in a Sue Ryder shop in Wareham in 2015 for 20p. When I opened it, I discovered that it had been signed by Keith. In fact the inscription reads " To Tony, with best wishes, Keith Waterhouse". Not out Tony by any chance? I have several other books signed by Keith. He lived in Brighton and I often saw him in our local bookshops.

The Enid Blyton signature looks genuine to me, Pete. :D

A late letter in Enid's career dated December 5th 1966 - almost 1967.
Anyone any idea what the subject matter of the letter might be about?

Just to derail this thread nicely - here's a photo of the Deanna Durbin autograph I mentioned earlier -

I'm amazed that no one has been able to comment on this letter that has had me really puzzled - oh and yes your pic was superb, thanks for posting it Rob.

I like the signed Deanna Durbin photo, Rob.

It's also good to see the Enid Blyton letter, Pete, though I can't work out exactly what had happened as a result of the card being delayed.

Who was Mr Stiff (or Stift) I wonder?

It is quite difficult to comment on, Pete, other than to say it is obviously a genuine letter and I think it is fairly clear also that this could not have been written by someone in an advanced state of Alzheimer's. This man might just have been the owner of a bookshop, who knows!

It's certainly an intriguing letter, written so late in Enid's life, and as Tony says, its obvious she didn't have Alzheimer's. I'm even doubtful she had dementia! She is much too with it and her writing is very neat.

Exactly what I have been thinking. Her memory probably wasn't what it was (who's is?), which could explain some of the slip ups in her books.
