A reference by Enid

Hi.

My Grandfather was the Late Richard Hughes. Maybe some of you will recognise that name as he was the gardener at Enid's home and was a named character in the film about her life story although very incorrectly portrayed. My Mother has just been sorting through an old box she had in her loft space and has found the reference that she gave him upon ending his employment. Its a hand written letter on personalised paper and signed in her married name. I understand that the society doesn't do valuations but if anybody could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. It's also a nice piece of my family History and in a small part of hers. So I though as she does have many fans I would share. Sorry but it's a photo of it, I will try to get hold of it to scan properly. My mother does have also a few pictures taken from the time that show my family in the gardens.

Hi Jim,
No doubt you already know, but your grandfather was a contributor to this 1975 BBC radio broadcast:

A Childlike Person
A portrait of Enid Blyton, by her friends and relatives.

Synopsis

Blyton's daughters, her brother and some of her oldest friends share their memories of the writer's personal and professional life. A broad range of memories build up to create a nuanced picture of a complex and often contradictory woman.

Lovely to see the letter ... and that answers our question about who looked after the hens!

The program my Grandad had content on was a Radio program called women hour or something similar. It is available online and I did download it a few years ago which my mother and Aunts received a copy of his spoken parts edited into 1 disk. One of my Aunts also appeared on a documentary that was recorded in the 90's I Think talking about her time growing up living at that house.

Fascinating! I've seen a similar photo in 'The Story of My Life' written by Enid in the 1950's. 8)

I received an Email from Someone who runs this site. I not going to tell their intentions. But it's to do with this thread.
