It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I think Susie is one of the best characters in the whole Blyton oeuvre.
I would love to have met her and planned dastardly deeds against the ever so stuffy Peter!!
I would love to have met her and planned dastardly deeds against the ever so stuffy Peter!!
PETER was going home from school one afternoon, swinging his satchel, when someone came running behind him and bumped into him.
He dropped his bag and almost fell over. He looked round crossly, expecting it to be George or Colin. But it wasn’t. It was Susie with her cheeky face, standing by the kerb grinning at him.
‘Sorry!’ she said. ‘You were in my way. How’s the Secret Seven Society going?’
‘You just look where you’re going, Susie,’ said Peter, picking up his bag. ‘As for the Secret Seven, it’s no business of yours. You’re always trying to interfere!’
‘Jack says there haven’t been any Secret Seven meetings for ages,’ said Susie, walking beside Peter, much to his annoyance. Susie was the most aggravating girl he knew.
" A kind heart always brings its own reward," said Mrs. Lee.

Susie was great! I think she was one of Blyton's best characters too - what I call Enid's 'aggravating' characters, such as Curious Connie, Eunice, Ern and Lucian, and not forgetting Aunt Rose! They are all some of Enid's best characters in my opinion.

Yes Enid did "enemy" characters very well. Mr Goon, Susie, Ragamuffin Jo and many others are among her finest creations.

Re: Blytonian!!
My daughter was discussing who she would like to dress up as next month for her school's Book Day. She suggested Anne from the FF. I asked how she thought she should dress and she replied 'in dungarees'. Maybe letting her watch the 1970s FF TV series wasn't such a good idea.

Robert said he'd like to be Goon:Courtenay wrote:We haven't cast Goon yet, have we?
We know Robert enjoys acting but he's also very creative and inventive so I think he'd make a good Julian Holland from The Naughtiest Girl is a Monitor. He doesn't share Julian's "don't care" phase, of course!Robert Houghton wrote:As for Goon - I volunteer for that part! I enjoy character parts, and I'm good at saying 'GAH!'

Do we say whom we think we should play, or wait for others to say whom they think we would be best suited to?

Say who you want to play, Michael. It's only a bit of fun anyway.
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.

Re: Blytonian!!
Well, yes, my comment was made with that in mind.
I can't help thinking that Uncle Quentin would probably come most naturally to me (I have almost no acting ability, actually), although I'm not sure he's the character I most like.
Regards, Michael.

I'm trying to guess who your favourite character might be Michael....one of the many Jacks perhaps?

Re: Blytonian!!
a nice suggestion...but I'd much rather play a 'baddies' of some sort...unless we can think of anyone more suitable for Goon, I'll audition, LOL!Anita Bensoussane wrote:Robert said he'd like to be Goon:Courtenay wrote:We haven't cast Goon yet, have we?

Re: Blytonian!!
Well... I have listed in my profile three characters as favourites: Julian, George, and Barney.pete9012S wrote:I'm trying to guess who your favourite character might be Michael....one of the many Jacks perhaps?
But I wouldn't take that too literally, as I always find it extremely difficult to choose a favourite anything out of all the available possibilities, and I could have chosen others.
