It seems to be the cover artwork for The Good Morning Book, 1961 edition, Lilah:

The picture isn't by Enid Blyton - it's by one of her illustrators. Joyce A. Johnson did the internal drawings for that book, but I'm not sure whether she did the cover as well. Tony Summerfield will probably know.

I cropped the picture Pete as it was originally landscape and it's just one framed image. I knew with the pixel width rule on the forums a portrait picture would work better.

So it is, Anita. Strange that the "An Enid Blyton" text still appears, but no book title. It looks like that would have fitted in the area shown.

Thankyou very much for your very interesting information, that is just great, lovely to know its history, kindest regards Lilah

Thanks to Anita and Fiona for their detective work.
Is the 1961 book on the left the same as this one from 1949 on the right??

I'm afraid I don't know whether the 1961 edition contains all the same stories and poems as the 1949 original. I haven't got The Good Morning Book in any edition, but I remembered that beautiful 1961 cover from having seen it in Tony Summerfield's Bibliography and in the Cave. You're lucky to have the artwork, Lilah!

I've just checked in my 1961 copy and it contains 21 short stories, 2 verses and 8 nature tales. According to the cave the original book has 41 stories and poems. Missing from the 1961 book are numbers (in the cave) 1,2,5,7,9,13,16,21,22,32.

I always find posting pictures on here very difficult compared to other sites. I usually upload them to facebook, but keep them private if I don't want them on my 'wall' then copy the URL and then I'm able to post them here, LOL!

Enid Blyton's Gift Book (1966)

There's lots of stories in this book from Enid Blyton's Good Morning Book.
I don't know if they're the stories missing from the early volume that Shadow identified?

What a lucky find Lilah, well done!
I wonder what size your artwork is compared to the actual book cover? I would imagine it is much bigger.

Regards

Pete

A good plug for the Facebook site, too! Wow! 230,317 'Likes' (or followers). We have only managed to attract 3,115. We can't be that good. :|

A lovely cover illustration though, really charming. I have replied to the original post with a link to the book details in the Cave.

I didn't know of the Enid Blyton Club facebook page until now! I have the two others as "friends" however.

Hi Pete,

Yes lucky find, it is much bigger than the cover on the book measures approx. 10 inches by 12 inches, l love it brings back childhood memories, sadly though l may have to sell it as boiler is on its way out, but it is hard to put a value on it really? Thankyou for your posts Lilah

Diz, you could always take the painting to a professional valuer to find out what it would be worth if you do decide to sell it. But I hope you won't have to. :D That's quite a treasure, a piece of original cover art for a book by a classic children's author.
