Do any of you know if Enid had a favourite book or series of books of which she had wrote. Did Gillian or Imogen have their favourites.Mine are the Adventure series.

Hi Gareth,

In her book, A Childhood at Green Hedges, Imogen mentions that she was particularly impressed by The Land of Far-Beyond.

Thanks to a Blyton fan willing to share her treasured letter, I also know Gillian's favourite book - It's Secret Island!

You can read the whole letter here: http://www.heathersblytonpages.com/scans.html - it's the third listing from the top.

I should have mentioned this before, too. I'm not sure of Enid's favourite book, but her favourite character was George, as you can hear Enid herself say at http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/audiointer ... one1.shtml

I know there were certain titles Agatha Christie wrote that she as an author was very pleased with, and yes it would be very interesting to know which books Enid was especially fond of that she had written herself.

If Enid was like many other authors, her favourite was probably the book she was writing at the time... 8)

I found it interesting, given the gloominess of A Childhood at Green Hedges, that Imogen found The Land of Far Beyond to be one of Enid's best, as I have always found it hard going whenever I've attempted to read it.

I love the whole atmosphere of The Land of Far-Beyond, but I can see how some Blyton-readers could be disappointed because it is so different to her usual style. Personally, I just think that there are so many compelling attributes and memorable qualities which contribute to the excellence of this story. For Enid, it is quite a dark and twisted tale, really - the Land of Turmoil and the painful burdens. The long, seemingly everlasting journey to the Land of Happiness. But it all merges together to become a thrilling quest, that personally I could read over and over.
