A lovely letter, Daniel. Enid Blyton had a vivid imagination, and when she was a girl stories would flood into her mind as she lay awake in bed at night. She also enjoyed telling stories to her younger brothers.

Her favourite character was George (really Georgina) in the Famous Five series. We don't know which of her own books Enid Blyton liked best but her favourite book as a child was The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. She loved the magical atmosphere of the tale.

Most stories have "problems" for the characters to deal with. That's what makes a story so interesting for the reader - seeing how the characters cope with everything and wondering what will happen next and how things will end.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.
