No, it's not the same letter. The letter in the Journal was written by "George Kirrin" to Famous Five fans!

Yes, I'm guessing George is 8 too. I think so because he said he's from year 3. If the years are same as the grades ( i.e. y3 = grade 3 ) then grade 3 is 8.
