An interesting letter, Molly. Janet's brother Peter is said to be head of the Secret Seven, but Janet is equally capable and would do a good job as leader I'm sure.

Enid Blyton said that stories flowed into her mind almost effortlessly, as though she were watching them on a cinema screen. Characters would appear and interact with each other, and sometimes her typing fingers could hardly keep up with what the characters were saying and doing.

We don't know which character Enid liked best from the Faraway Tree series, but her favourite character was George from the Famous Five books. George is strong, brave, loyal, honest and likes to do things that are considered boyish (or were in those days) - fishing, rowing, climbing trees and exploring. She is a good friend to have, even though she can at times be stubborn and sulky. Enid herself was a feisty, tomboyish child so she was like George in some respects.

Enid's books were illustrated by lots of different artists, though she did draw a few sketches of her own for one or two nature books. Dorothy Wheeler was the original illustrator of the Faraway Tree series.

Enid Blyton had a talent for story-telling from a young age. Her schoolfriend's aunt, Mabel Attenborough, encouraged her in her writing.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.
