It's great to see items like that. Thanks, Paul and Tony. I rather like that film of The Island of Adventure, even though the children are on the old side and don't look at all as Enid Blyton described!

You're welcome, I also enjoyed the film, particularly as a boy. I was 7 or 8 when it was released. Just an additional bit of info, Tony. The illustrator for that book is credited inside as Rowan Clifford. I'll send you some shots later

And here are some illustrations from the book we talked about earlier. Personally, I find them to be rather inconsistent throughout the book. Considering the jacket has a rather excellent piece of artwork, showing the four leads from the film, it's a bit odd that the internal illustrations are rather basic and bear no likeness to the cast at all - especially as this book came out well after the film...

I know many will prefer those illustrations to the illustrations of Betty Maxey's Famous Five.

Very rare to see the Adventure Books illustrated by anyone other than Stuart Tresilian,perhaps this is the only time?

I think you may be right, Pete - about the only time another illustrator was used. Even the more modern reprints sometimes still use some, if not all, of Tresilian's illustrations (except those depicting Jo-Jo as a black man!.

I quite like the modern 'Adventure' illustrations but they in no way compare to Tresilian's. Tresilian is one of the best EB illustrators, in my opinion - I love his style. Comparing these 'modern' Island of Adventure illustrations to Betty Maxey is pretty difficult - I like Maxey about equally to this illustrator, personally.

They have quite a cartoony style and remind me a lot of the illustrations for the annual versions of Smuggler's Top and Mystery Moor.

Thanks for that, Pete, I have given it a bit of a makeover and added it to that same section. I still need to know how many pages the book has.

I happen to own three books by Tosa Verlag (Das Schiff/Der Zirkus/Der Fluß der Abenteuer) that aren't illustrated by Stuart Tresilian. As far as I know the other five books haven't been published by Tosa. The illustrations aren't great though.

Thanks Tony - Yes it needed a tidy up as it is 'well thumbed' and it contains 592 pages.

Oh,and it contains Stuart Tresilian illustrations throughout.

It's good to see both books. The internal illustrations for the St Michael (Marks & Spencer) edition aren't bad, but they're not as striking and atmospheric as Stuart Tresilian's drawings.

Am I right in thinking that one of the journals had an article about this series? I've looked through the entire list but can't seem to see it anywhere. Could someone point me in the direction of what number journal it might have been? Thanks in advance.
