Which actors should play which Enid Blyton characters?

Post by Anita Bensoussane »

Have you ever read an Enid Blyton book and thought to yourself, "So-and-so would be the perfect choice to play that character in a film version"?

I'd love to see Helena Bonham-Carter as Rose Longfield (Six Cousins books) - she has the right kind of delicate porcelain quality about her.

Rowan Atkinson, master of quirkiness, would be perfect for the Angry Pixie.

And whenever I see Lynda Baron playing Auntie Mabel in the children's programme Come Outside, I think she'd make a wonderful Joan/Joanna.

Anyone got any more?

Hmm... I actually had sometimes thought of that, but, as I don't watch TV much, I hardly know of any actors and actresses!

Oh, many, many times, Anita.

Watching an old All Creatures Great and Small the other day, I thought what an excellent actor James Grout (Granville Bennett) would be to play Jenks. Just as I imagine him to be - voice and appearance.

I see the Angry Pixie played by Richard Wilson (Victor Meldrew).

I know he's not an actor, but Ben Fogle always makes me think of an older version of Julian for some reason.

I have to agree with Anita about Rowan Atkinson. I think he would be wonderful as the Angry Pixie ;-)

I think that the actor who plays Alf Ventris in 'Heart Beat' would be perfect for Mr Goon (sorry, don't know his real name).
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Sean Connery as Bill?
Penelope Keith as Aunt Allie?

That's absolutely inspired! I completely agree with you there. I've always wanted Kenneth Cranham for Goon - not that he looks remotely like him, but I think he'd suffer beautifully, and that wonderful voice calling out to the Toad in anguish.

Id like to see ...........

Johnny Depp as Mister Meddle,

Audrey Hepburn as Silky the Fairy,

Walter Mathau as Pink Whistle

Sean Connery as Bill Smugs

Meryl Streep as Miss Grayling

Hilary Swank is George (she played a male role of course)

Vivian Leigh (Scarlet o'hara) Gwendoline

Mollie Sugden as Mz Dupont

Why this forum deserves to generate enormous interest and promises historic potential is because of the new Hardy Boys movie called Hardy Men. (Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller) . Now Enid deserves her own grown up star cast.. so why dont we use our enormous clout..? Here we come Hollywood..!

hah! Ben Fogle would be GREAT as a Blyton character. I am not sure about Julian - he seems to nice to be Julian - but perhaps he could be Dick? An older Dick, of course.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.

The late, great Michael Sheard (better known to my generation as the draconian Mr Bronsan from Grange Hill) would have made a perfect Horace Tipperlong from The Sea of Adventure.

Not an actor, but whenever I thought of Bill Smugs, I always visualized the athlete Steve Ovett!

I have a soft spot for Julian though and don't think he's as bad as everyone makes out. I think he's quite nice really :D

Ben Fogle's looks make me think of Julian too. I think he looks a bit like Julian in Eileen Soper's illustrations, whereas I always picture Dick with dark hair. Although I suppose actors can always dye their hair if necessary.
