Why HAVEN'T Malory Towers and St. Clare's been filmed?

Post by andrewd285 »

Any thoughts? Seems like these are classics and should have a ready market for TV at least. So many of us are desperate to have Darrell, Sally, Alicia, Gwen, Pat, Isabel, Carlotta, etc come to life!

Actually, there are films about St Clare's - a Japanese anime series in 26 parts and a German Hanni und Nanni film (Hanni und Nanni = St Clare's in German). Although I have to admit that the film has not really much in common with the book.

I think I would prefer books I like not to be mutilated and butchered by film-makers.
I did read years ago that some Malory Towers shows (television, I think) were going to be made, with Dawn French as Mam'zelle Dupont - an interesting idea. But I think the show was going to be some years later, featuring now-grown-up schoolgirls, and all sorts of un-Blytonian adult issues. Since I've heard nothing of this since, I gather it may not be happening after all.
If it came on, I'd have to watch it out of curiosity - but I suspect this is really rather off. A pity Chorion themselves now seem to approve these adultified travesties of Enid Blyton.

Regards, Michael.

Amazon.de offers the complete series of the St Clare's anime series https://www.amazon.de/ersten-Folgen-erf ... anni+Nanni and https://www.amazon.de/Hanni-Nanni-erfol ... anni+Nanni.
According to the description the second set or rather part has an English dubbing as well. It seems a bit odd though that the first part doesn't feature it.
For those who prefer French, it's also available: https://www.amazon.co.uk/jumelles-St-Cl ... +Clare%27s

I checked the company's page that's selling the German DVD sets for the St Clare's anime series, and there's no mention of English at all, so either Amazon put on a wrong description, or the description was changed by the seller later on.
What's highly annoying is the fact both German sets together are sold for roughly 37€, while the complete French set is sold for 12,7€ on German Amazon :x .

The French edition of the St Clare's anime series arrived yesterday. Unfortunately no subtitles, but well... I doubt the German edition features one as well.

One of my dreams would be to make a TV series of Malory Towers. It's a pity one hasn't been done before. But I would like mine to be like the books, so as not to lose that amazing atmosphere it contains. :D

I wonder as well. I aware of those St Claires anime adaptation.

With recent Netflix popularity rising, the three boarding school sof Enid : Malory, St. Clare, Naughtiest series can easily adapted to tv series. I guess the problem are in buying license of Enid Blyton works from the current owner. If Enid Blyton ever went into TV series, I don't mind if they are not following the original book story (as we all read them already), but please use the characters and be faithful to their character design. There are tons of Enid Blyton characters ready to be used in any fictional writing.

Malory Towers has been made into three (so far) TV series in the UK for the BBC. There is a topic on here where it is discussed.

They are all available on DVD - at least here in the UK: https://amazon.co.uk/s?k=malory+towers& ... -doa-p_2_6
