Re: Michael Hinz RIP
This is very sad news indeed. Michael Hinz quite accurately portrayed the various aspects of Quentin Kirrin in the Southern TV Famous Five series. In addition, he also gave the character a warmth that was sometimes lacking in the original books.

Re: Michael Hinz RIP
I am terribly sorry to hear this news. Micheal Hinz made a very good Uncle Quentin in the 1978 series. His portrayal fitted very well with the prtrayals by the rest of the cast, no mean feat when his character was such a crusty old sort. My condolences to his family.

Re: Michael Hinz RIP
I read about these sad news in the newspaper on last saturday.
I always wanted to write him a letter, to ask him whether he could tell me a little about the making of the FF-series. I even knew the address of his agency. But I never really did it. Now it´s too late.
It´s very sad.

Only just read this, very sad news indeed...
RIP Uncle Quentin, Gary, do you have any nice snippets about working with him?

The definitive '78 series nut.

Re: Michael Hinz RIP
This certainly is extremely sad news. If I recall rightly, Sue Best, who played Aunt Fanny, also died a few years ago of cancer or something. And of course, Michele Gallagher aka George is believed to be dead, so I think that now only leaves three members of the core cast from the '78 series - Marcus, Gary and Jenny.
Best Regards

Re: Michael Hinz RIP
Well, I suppose that's inevitable. I think we may - I certainly do - forget that the series is 30 years old, any actor then in his 40s or 50s would now be in his 70s or 80s. Time marches on, but we often stay in that period. Hinz was a quite good Quentin, certainly better than the Christopher Good's portrayal of Quentin, who played him in the 90s series. Of course, no one comes close to one's own vision of the characters, in my case they are firmly based on Eileen's sketches.RDMorrell wrote:so I think that now only leaves three members of the core cast from the '78 series - Marcus, Gary and Jenny.

Re: Michael Hinz RIP
I had already seen reports of Mr Hinz' death, before seeing this thread. He had passed away, after suffering a stroke induced coma. He had passed away on November 6th. My birthday, of all days.
My condolences to his family.

I wasn't aware of this. Oh what a shame. Where did you find that snippet of info from? I often wondered what happened to Sue.RDMorrell wrote:If I recall rightly, Sue Best, who played Aunt Fanny, also died a few years ago of cancer or something.

I'm very sorry for never answering this question, but I didn't actually see it until today!Gary Russell wrote:I wasn't aware of this. Oh what a shame. Where did you find that snippet of info from? The site where I saw info about Sue Best's death was this one, I think:
http://www.fuenffreundefanpage.at/de_treffen04.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The key sentence is:
In der Frage- u. Antwort-Stunde konnte man viel erfahren z.B.
daß Tante Fanny (Sue Best) vor 2 Jahren gestorben sei.
Translated, this says:
"In the question and answer hour, we learned a great deal, e.g.
that Aunt Fanny (Sue Best) died two years ago."
That was written in 2004, so if true, it means she must have passed away in 2002.
No mention of cancer (apart from Toddy). So maybe I got the cancer part mixed up with Toddy, or perhaps I read about Sue Best having cancer somewhere else (blessed if I can find it now though!).
Best Regards
