It was shot during Mystery Moor so my guess is it'd be somewhere near DPF and the surrounding horse-riding area.number 6 wrote:NOT a location as such, but when I saw this banking above a small gorge (below Castle hill), I couldn't help thinking of the publicity photo taken of the Children lying down peering over a similar banking! Where was it shot? One for Gary, I suppose

Good photos and comments. I like the look of Roydon Manor.

No, I'm afraid not, Chrissie! A Fox has burrowed into the side of the banking some time ago. The banking is actually quite small. It just looks bigger in the photo than it really is!Chrissie777 wrote:Number 6, is this a cave entrance?

Thanks, Gary! I like little snippets of info like this. Here's one that I've often wondered about...Did the film crew ever take stock footage, say the moorland around DPF, & use it on another episode that may require a moor scene..like Smugglers top/Hike?Gary Russell wrote:It was shot during Mystery Moor so my guess is it'd be somewhere near DPF and the surrounding horse-riding area.number 6 wrote:NOT a location as such, but when I saw this banking above a small gorge (below Castle hill), I couldn't help thinking of the publicity photo taken of the Children lying down peering over a similar banking! Not that I'm aware of - I think time and money were tight enough that they only shot what was needednumber 6 wrote:Here's one that I've often wondered about...Did the film crew ever take stock footage, say the moorland around DPF, & use it on another episode that may require a moor scene..like Smugglers top/Hike?

Thank you, number 6. The hole looked larger than I imagined it to be.number 6 wrote:No, I'm afraid not, Chrissie! A Fox has burrowed into the side of the banking some time ago. The banking is actually quite small. It just looks bigger in the photo than it really is!

It would've been great if it were a cave, Chrissie! That would've been cool. Sadly, it's just an optical illusion.

A close up view of St Leonards barn, as seen in the Finniston Farm episode...and a sneaky peek of Warren house (Finniston farmhouse) seen to it's left! The house sits on the left as you just enter Warren lane, which eventually leads down to the lovely Blackwater house (Kirrin Cottage).

Pylewell gates, near Lymington. Top pic showing gates from front, then bottom pic of side view, which shows where the Children dumped their bikes & hid as the car approached Owls Dene in the Trouble episode. Not good pics. Taken with my I-pad!

Thanks no#6 when I went to Exbury House and driving along I wondered why I didn't see this! Now I know why! Different location!
Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series
Timv just to add some info about smuggling in Burley. The Queens head pub in Burley has blocked up smuggler tunnels that run from the pub there over the field straight to Burley Manor hotel!

Helenbee and Timv, there's another blocked up smuggler tunnel at the Sarazen's Head (sp?) pub in Penzanze, Cornwall, which originally lead to the harbour.
