Certainly not! In fact...

Yeah, curiously I'm not *rushing* to tell her that bit of information :D
... I bet I know what she'd say to you:
ANNE (indignant): "Oh, don't!"
"Five Get Into Trouble", "Five Have A Wonderful Time"
... or maybe:
ANNE (indignant): "Oh no, I don't believe that!"
"Five Are Together Again"
Anyway, any photos from this notable Yahoo!Group you'd like to download for safekeeping, best to do so before they decide to close said Yahoo!Group....

Am I the only one who finds this last post from daanton in slightly poor taste? :? Jennifer Thanisch isn't cute, sweet little Anne from the 1970s Famous Five any more (which was purely a role she acted in, never her own personality anyway) - she's an adult woman who has moved on from her youthful acting career and has every right to her own privacy and to distance herself from that career as she chooses.

I don't know her personally, but I can imagine she would be very uncomfortable at ageing adult fans still drooling over photos of her when she was an adolescent - and as for the site being taken over by porn, I think I can understand exactly why Gary (who does know her) hasn't told her that detail! Any decent person would be horrified and disgusted. Perhaps a little more respect and empathy might be in order?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I actually had the privilege of meeting Jennifer Thanisch many, many Moons ago, When her parents ran the Three Horseshoes pub in Laleham. If I remember correctly, She was living away from the pub & would rarely visit. When She did, She'd make an occasional appearance in the bar area from time to time. I was introduced to Jennifer by her Father, Who I had got to know whilst I was working in the area. It took a few meetings before the penny dropped & I realised who it was! As far as I recall, She was a very shy young Lady & would turn bright red if a customer had recognised her! On the rare occasion She spoke to me, I'd never mention or get her to talk about her acting career, etc. As far as I was concerned that was her business, not mine! I still look back on those fleeting moments with a smile. It was just lovely to have met her. I still wouldn't bother her or pry into her private life, etc, if I met her Today. That's how it should be & that's the way it'll always be.
I'am not encroaching on Jennifer's privacy with what I've written, ie pub ownership, etc, as things have changed considerably over the past 30 years since I met her & She has moved on with her life...as we all should, too!

Please, Courtenay, I do realiz/se she has long since grown up. But she was, after all, part of television history and I felt the Yahoo!Group was merely helping us remember her acting career and nothing further than that.

[ If my last post offended anybody, or even the lady herself, I humbly apologiz/se. ]

We were simply concerned about the increase of p0rn messages and personals being posted onto that Group. Like it's been increasingly happening to a few other Yahoo!Groups, because their admins or moderators may not keeping up by curbing the growing spam.

The original Enid Blyton Group went the same way. Michael Edwards used to post there, I believe. However, the current Group has just lost support. but it is a private Group and cannot be accessed unless you are an approved member.

I've reported the problem to Yahoo. (basically stating that the site owner/ moderator has lost interest allowing vulgar spam messages to take over).

What did you do to unsubscribe, Nigel? The "unsubscribe" link still isn't working for me.

I would also love to leave the group judging by what I have recently read but unfortunately lost my Yahoo login details many moons ago.

Same here, Petermax! Lost my details as well. Any unwanted e-mails now get flagged up & diverted to junk, then I empty the box once a week. :D

I didn't know about this group, so am not on it - but it can possibly be saved, if it indeed has content worth saving. However, only the group's owner can do that.
What he needs to do is to first of all evict all members known to have posted spam, which can be easily found out by just checking the spam messages; those messages should also be deleted individually from the archive that Yahoo keeps.
Then he needs to set the group so that moderator approval is needed for new members to join, which can include asking applicants to state in a sentence or two why they are interested in joining - this keeps out robots, spammers, and the like. Then it may be desirable to set the group so that all new members are on moderation until they have posted one or two legitimate messages, after which they are manually unmoderated once they can be trusted. If existing members are known to be legitimate, they can avoid going on moderation, too. Under this system, established members can post without moderation, and the moderation applies only to new, unknown members. It is unnecessary, and a great waste of time, especially on busy groups, to have all messages moderator-approved on a continuing basis.
I have run groups on Yahoo - still do, but they are all inactive now, interest apparently having died - and, with these measures in place, I have never had problems with spammers. If any slip through the cracks somehow, then of course they need to be immediately booted out. A zero-tolerance policy on this is probably necessary these days.

If this group still has some potential life ahead of it, it is, in my opinion, imperative that these measures be carried out as soon as possible, if it is to have any hope of future life.
If the owner is no longer interested, but at least still contactable (a big gamble now, I'd say), and someone else is interested in running it, it may be worth asking them if they are willing to transfer ownership of it to the interested person. If the owner cannot be contacted, then I would consider the group a "ghost" group, with no real future, although it may continue churning on in an automated fashion for years to come, with no-one able to stop the spam.
The nub of the problem is: if the group's owner cannot be contacted, then the group has no future at all. You may succeed in contacting Yahoo, but they can do nothing about it except possibly delete the group if they find it violates their terms and conditions. If particular members are especially egregious offenders, then reporting them to Yahoo can result in their account being cancelled; but if anyone tries to do this but *doesn't* want the group cancelled too, beware: once the spamming accounts are investigated, Yahoo may decide that the group needs to be deleted anyway, even if you didn't ask for that too.

Regards, Michael.

A good post Michael.
On a totally separate note, are you still looking for original Secret Seven books?
I think you mentioned it on the forums ages ago.
If so,there are eleven for sale on ebay here:

To be honest, the group had been run down for a very long time & was on the verge of collapsing anyway! Hardly any posts were made at all. I think there were only a dozen posts in a year, & the majority of those weren't worthwhile contributions! I feel that the group has run its course & should be allowed to drift out of existence. :D
