Would the name of this town rhyme with any other word, Eddie?

I don’t think there is an exact rhyme, Aurélien, but barring is close.

Thank you for the additional clue, Eddie.

So, that town name was something a bit like Farring.....

If it was a real place, someone here should be able to combine both your clues to name the town correctly. (All that I can come up with is Farnham, which is :? a very wild guess.)

Your question, Aurélien. :D

:D Thank you, Eddie. I had expected someone else to win that round.

In which FFO book did Fatty teach the others how one might sometimes escape from a room when the only door had been locked from the other side?

For a bonus smilie, you could also remind us of Bets' caution as to when this technique probably wouldn't work.....

That would be The Mystery of the Secret Room, Aurélien.

I re-read it fairly recently, but can't quite remember whether Bets' caution was that it wouldn't work if there was carpet under the door — I know that comes into it, but I'm not sure whether it's Bets or Fatty who says it — or if anyone brings up the even more obvious point that it would only work if the key was left in the keyhole...

You win both smilies, Courtenay. Over to you. :D (The third smilie is for pointing out that if the key wasn't left in the lock they would stay locked in.)

Yes, in Chapter III Bets pointed out that a fitted carpet would make this trick unworkable, and Fatty agreed.

Lock-picking lessons would  seem to be needed, and wouldn't PC Goon love to catch them picking locks!.

I had, actually. My apologies.

Perhaps no-one will mind if I leave it till tomorrow, when I've got the day free? I'll think about it in the meantime...

     I forgot this one. Sorry, everyone. I'll post one as soon as I can, but if I don't come up with anything in the next couple of days, I don't mind if someone else takes a turn instead.

To restart this FFO Series Quiz:

In which FFO + Dog novel did Larry, inspired by Fatty's modest coughs, spout an extempore 4-line poem? ('Twas schoolboy-type driveling doggerel, rather than summat worthy to be called a poem. Ern loved it, of course.)

Welcome back, Yak. :D

Sorry, but 'TMO Holly Lane' is not the right answer.

Clue:
The (partly mangled) words rhyming at the line ends are: coff + off, and coffin + offin.
