N, please.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Re: Hangman
Could I have a J please
If I could live here on this secret island always and always and always, and never grow up at all, I would be quite happy
Re: Hangman
By all means. A J for you - and perhaps the key.

Re: Hangman
The Island of Adventure was told on Jackanory by Peter Gilmore.
I had the start of this for ages it was just the end that had eluded me!

"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Re: Hangman
Me too lol, the end was bugging me!
Re: Hangman
Well, you cracked it the end, Fiona! Well done!
For the benefit of anyone who doesn't know (and anyone who's not in the UK probably won't), Jackanory was a very long-running BBC Children's TV programme in which well-known actors and personalities told stories from books on weekdays (i.e. 5 X 15mins.) accompanied by specially commissioned illustrations. Peter Gilmore was best known for playing James Onedin in the very popular BBC TV series, "The Onedin Line". He also appeared (though less prominently) in thirteen of the "Carry On" films. He was married three times to Una Stubbs, Jan Waters (principally a stage actress) and Anne Stallybrass (who, in the early series, co-starred in "The Onedin Line" with him).
Over to you, Fiona.

Re: Hangman
After the J, I had it all worked out except for the surname! (We didn't have Jackanory in Australia, but I have heard of it.)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
