I think it's time for a wild guess. I think I'm right - but I could be wrong.

Eileen Paterson was the new matron's daughter.

There's a relief!

Yes Dave, you're quite correct. Sorry about the missing I - I must have skipped a copy when doing the next letter!

I think you're right, Dave. It's from Claudine at St Clare's.

As I think I've said some time ago, the problem with posts crossing seems to be with the phpBB host site. You are supposed to get a warning message that there has been another post since the one you are replying to, but that does not always happen. It does sometimes, but not always. The only way to be certain is to leave the forum completely and then re-enter. It's not always convenient to do that. You can be sure that someone will think it's your fault, but it is clear to me that is not the fault of any forumite. It's probable that phpBB has more traffic than its servers can cope with all the time.

Thanks, Ilsa and Eddie. I wasn't entirely sure about the name, Paterson. Funnily enough, I've been proof-reading my cousin Gwen's second book, an autobiography, (not bad for a 91 year old) , and a family called Paterson feature in that.

Also, it's all too easy to make mistake. No one will think any the worse of you if you do. Fiona, you're too hard on yourself. What I actually had in mind with my unfinished sentence was that it is always worth a guess and gamble that there might be a mistake, especially as there is no penalty for a wrong guess.

Right. All that out of the way, here's the next one.

Possibly a toughie - but what do I know?

I have noticed that too Dave. You get a notification that someone has posted recently - it seems to know that you saw and read the post to which you are replying - but if we are too hot on the heels of another, we can't be forewarned. Yes, Eddie - that's what must have happened although according to the time of posts yours was 2 minutes after mine! Anyway... onwards and upwards!

An E please Dave ?

With regard to the messages about posts, I could understand if we were talking about a few seconds, but two minutes is quite a long time when you think about it.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
