Well, we're glad to see you back, Srishti, but it would have been even better if you'd come back on 3rd April to judge the competition as you promised. Yesterday, I asked Daisy if she would like to judge it in your place. Luckily for you, she hasn't yet done so. (By the way Daisy, if it happens that you've already spent some time going through the entries and choosing a winner/winners, please feel free to say who you chose as well, so your time won't have been wasted).

Congratulations Loony The Dog! A well deserved winner of a unique writing competition. :D :D
I don't actually think I've ever read Hurrah for the Circus, but feel I will give it a try after reading your review.

Regards

Pete

Hurrah for the Circus – 1984 Dean

I chose this book as subject for this essay because reading it recently I found it very interesting and a most enjoyable book. In my opinion, it was very much in Blyton’s style to write heroic acts in her books which there are many of in this like Jimmy saving Jemima in the chapter Oh, Poor Little Jemima! and in the chapters 12, 13, and 14.

I do have some minor criticism about this book. I found it annoying that Fric got no punishment at all for stealing Lucky; not even getting the money paid from Charlie Binks taken off him! Also, when Mrs. Brown states in chapter 8,” I declare I won’t stay in the circus,” I was surprised nothing more was said about the matter.

There are some very good points to this book. I like the way Blyton used a lot of sudden mood changes. In other books of hers I have read I found that they revolving around some mystery or adventure, but, in this book, the mood seemed to change from happy to sad all the time. The first time I read this book I really entered into the circus atmosphere I could almost hear the trumpets blowing “Tan-Tara!”, and the crowd clapping. Overall I think this was a very interesting and enjoyable book.

Well done Loony! :D This was certainly a most unique competition. It wasn't quite a 'mega' competition, but it had its moments. I would love to know what Daisy thought of the essays too -- if she read them that is. It would provide a different perspective on the essays.

By the way, what happens to this thread now that the competition is over?

When a game or competition like this ends, we leave the thread up so people can continue to enjoy reading the reviews or whatever - a bit like the "Name the Forumite" game where people can continue to enjoy looking at the photos.

In case anyone is thinking of starting another "competition" thread, we don't want any more - at least not for a long while - as it causes problems when people have to come back on a certain date and pick a winner. Even on the regular Games threads people are sometimes slow to confirm an answer or set a new question.

Does it really matter now, a winner has been chosen, and at the end of the day it was only a bit of fun, with no prizes awarded! :|

I'm sure Iluveb will be delighted to tell you how you did-I must say I feel so much more relaxed now the mega writing competition has been judged and a worthy winner has been chosen because now we can all chat happily without any fear of censure! :D
