How does Captain Arnold use an eclipse to his advantage in escaping the mountain?

He gets Mafumu to translate to the people that Capt Arnold is stronger than their sun and that he is going to eat or destroy their sun. As the eclipse starts The Captain pretends that it is him using his power to get rid of the sun. As it goes darker the people panic, allowing the group to escape.
