Song Association!

Post by Pippa-Stef »

I'm not sure where to put this, but I think it might be alright here!

What I'm propsing is choosing a song (past or present) and then putting a character the song reminds you of!

This might show you what I mean :D

Scissor Sisters- She's my Man- George Kirrin and Bill Robinson (MT)

Just thought it might be interesting!
"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

Great thread idea! :D

"The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get" - Maureen Little and Gwendoline. (5th MT book)
Gwendoline lay down, angry. She determined to make herself miserable and cry.

[Pippa-Stef:] A Hazy Shade of Winter- Five get into a Fix!
I suppose you think that's by The Bangles as well! (Well, I know it was, but not originally! :) )

My daughter and I have those sort of conversations all the time. She'll sing something and say to me, "Do you know this song?" Quite often I will know it and I'll say something like, "Yes, it's Heaven by Bryan Adams" and she'll say, "It is Heaven but it's not by Bryan Adams - it's by D J Sammy." Or I'll say, "It's Mad World by Tears for Fears" and she'll say, "No, it's Mad World by Gary Jules." It's amazing how many conversations we've had like that. A few times we've been on YouTube and played the old and modern versions of songs just to compare!

Getting back to the game:

It's a Mystery by Toyah Wilcox - the Find-Outers.

And I've always thought that the boy called Jack in the Manfred Mann song which goes "My name's Jack and I live in the back/Of the Greta Garbo Home for Wayward Boys and Girls" sounds as if he belongs in The Six Bad Boys!

"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."

The correct song title is in fact Another Brick In The Wall. This was a huge hit back in 1979 and very controversal at the time.
I Am a Rock, I Am an Island (Simon and Garfunkel) - George Kirrin
Absolutely! The lyrics sum up George in the first book of the series, Five on a Treasure Island perfectly.

I am a rock,
I am an island.
Ive built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
Its laughter and its loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

[Petermax:] The correct song title is in fact Another Brick In The Wall.
In that case, Another Brick in the Wall will have to represent all the Enid Blyton characters who are referred to as being "a brick"!

I remember watching the video of Another Brick in the Wall on Top of the Pops as a child. Other songs which have stuck in my mind from around the same era are Message in a Bottle (The Police), I Don't Like Mondays (Boomtown Rats) and Video Killed the Radio Star (Buggles, I think.) I remember my mum explaining that I Don't Like Mondays was inspired by the true story of a young girl who went to school one Monday and shot fellow pupils and teachers. After that, that song made me shiver whenever I heard it.

Agree about the lyrics of I Am a Rock being just right for George as she is when we first meet her.
