Neither can anyone else so far, from the looks of it! Here are the clues again...

I have even been responsible for the distinctive markings of certain birds!

Who am I?
Would anyone like a further hint? :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Yes. I need one.
I am thinking this character must be from one of the books I have not read.

I just realised this is another thread that's slipped down a long way with a question still pending:

Any takers? I know there are definitely some others here who would know the answer...

Thanks Courtenay! I don't think I've played this before! :-D

Here we go --

I am a woman with a sad past, which I guess has made me bitter. I'm very good with a needle, and would love to own a sewing machine - that would make my job so much easier! I love my niece, but the tragedy of the past has made me close my heart to her. I hide my feelings with a short temper, and seem hard, but that is just to hide my sadness.

Who am I?
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

OK, here's another (I like making three-clue riddles, for some reason)...

I belong to two worlds and don't quite fit into either.
I have a four-footed companion who often assists me in my work.
I have a particular special ability that regularly comes in handy!

I live near the sea, a boy who likes to think he's tough.
I love playing 'let's pretend' games and sometimes get carried away with them!
I feel so proud to have a boat named after me!

I wondered if it is Andy, but am not sure about the 'let's pretend' games!
