Dave's right! Except that it's "dicky" with a small d, as Pip (in The Mystery of the Spiteful Letters) is in fact referring to his dictionary, which the Find-Outers have just found in an unusual haul of clues that soon turn out to be the key to the mystery...

Well, I don't think I would ever have thought of dicky as being short for dictionary. I associate it with being Cockney rhymng slang for shirt, and, more precisely, a false shirt front that was once a favourite prop of comedians.
