The Brontës
Split from another topic.
Just re-reading Wuthering Heights before I head off to Haworth on Sunday, where the day will be spent on a guided walk of the places that influenced the Bronte Sisters novels. Top Withens, which apparently inspired the farm in Wuthering Heights, is one of the locations I'm looking forward to seeing high on the desolate moor! The Bronte parsonage is well worth a visit & Haworth is a charming place to wile away a few hours!
As most of you know, Haworth was the location for the filming of the 1970's Railway Children starring Bernard Cribbins & Jenny Agutter. There's a lovely walk that takes in the filming locations, inc Oakworth train station, which features heavily in the film.

Re: The Brontës
I love Haworth. There's also a good second hand book shop there too, number 6 on the main cobbled street.
Have a great time.

I know the bookshop mentioned by Julie, Number 6. It is well worth a visit. I hope you enjoy your guided walk in Haworth.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Cheers, Eddie! I've been to Haworth a few times now, but I never got round to the bookshop Julie mentioned. I will this time, though!

Ignore a second hand bookshop at your peril. You never know what delights are lurking within. Enjoy your trip to Haworth, Number 6.

Re: The Brontës
Never been to Hawarth but its definitely somewhere on my 'to visit' list! Its one of those places that's really too far away for a day trip (though not impossibly so, of course!) and too nearby for a holiday destination - so it always seems to get ignored!

Yes, I know what you mean, Rob! I tend to have the same problem when I want to visit similar places in the South. I have to keep reminding myself, "if i don't make the effort, then they'll stay ignored indefinitely!" That seems to get me motivated!
I love arriving on the Steam train from Keighley & then walk up the steep cobbled street to the old part of Haworth, where the Bronte Parsonage & church are located. The parsonage is bit pricey to get in, but it's a must do!

A very interesting programme (from 1977), about the Bronte sisters, can be seen on the BBC iPlayer - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p ... d=p027vyvp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
