Re: The Cherrys by Will Scott
Many thanks for your best wishes, Nigel, Lenoir, Anita, Julie and Daisy. Much appreciated.
'Tis a waiting game at the moment. The resources are limited, and a points-system is in use to ensure 'fair' treatment of all those in need of a cataract operation. The dice seem to be loaded against folks like me who have already had one successful cataract operation. A major goal of our NZ health system is to keep us vintage types living in our own homes without costly home help. I find driving the biggest challenge, 'cos judging distances can be a tad difficult with only one good eye. And I've had to reduce the time that I spend each day reading my computer screen.
I'm most grateful that cataracts are an operable condition, and that I live in a country with a decent public health system.

Good luck, Aurélien. I hope you manage to get your second cataract operation arranged very soon and that it is as successful as the first one.

Thank you, Eddie.
The ophthalmologist who saw me on March 8th issued the mandatory warning that, just occasionally, cataract operations can go horribly wrong, but 'tis worth the risk to try to regain proper binocular vision.

I imagine there is a risk in every operation (even crossing the road isn't risk-free). It is all about weighing up the benefits and do they outweigh the possible risks. I would do the same as you, Aurélien, if in the same boat. Good luck and I hope you don't have to wait too long.Aurélien wrote:The ophthalmologist who saw me on March 8th issued the mandatory warning that, just occasionally, cataract operations can go horribly wrong, but 'tis worth the risk to try to regain proper binocular vision.

Ah yes - I remember Lenoir saying that the Enid Blyton Society was mentioned in that book. Thanks for the scan, Sixret!

But Nigel, 'twas Lenoir whom we must credit with launching this thread.
You will notice that the links here to Cherrys illustrations uploaded over on my Photobucket webpages can no longer be relied upon to keep working, so much of my contribution will likely vanish.

But you've made the biggest contribution and I remember looking at your links and maps etc. I know that links on photo sites sometime disappear, but hopefully not.

A somewhat belated Happy Birthday, Lenoir.

Re: The Cherrys by Will Scott
I haven't read any Cherrys books since I borrowed a couple from the library when I was six or seven years old. The other day, however, I came across The Cherrys' Mystery Holiday (minus dustwrapper, alas!) for £2 in an antiques shop, so I'll give it a read when time allows. I was pleased to find it - I'm already liking the map of St Denis Bay on the endpapers.

That's a great price, Anita.
The Cherrys books are ridiculously overpriced if you are seeking Brockhampton hardbacks in dustwrappers.

What a bargain! Cherrys books are, as John says, so overpriced. I only have two as any I've seen have been just too expensive.
