Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
So, is anyone else here excited by yesterday's news? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is to be published on July 21, 2007.
I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and this news just about sent me over the edge. My excitement is tinged with a little sadness, however, as the series is now coming to an end.

It's great that they're both coming out in July. My daughter's birthday is at the end of July so she can have the book as a present and go to see the film as a birthday treat. (And if I just happen to enjoy the book and film too, well, that's simply a happy coincidence! )

Oh, Ming and George, I thoroughly recommend trying the books. I didn't for years because I was put off by the hype, but this is one of those rare occasions when the hype is fully justified.
No one knows anything about the last book yet. Rumours and speculation abound, but the only person who knows is Jo Rowling (and perhaps her editors and publishers).Heard Harry was supposed to die in the last book.

They're good fun - I would like them better if they didn't have so very many and such very striking similarities with early Diana Wynne Jones. I don't for a moment think Rowling ripped her off consciously, but it wouldn't surprise me if she's read her as a little girl.
If at least one of my favourite characters ends the series alive, I'll be happy. Reckon Lucius will definately be for the chop, though.

I am totally excited! I actually run a Harry Potter forum but hey, I advertise enough on here so I will spare you that . But I cant wait! I will be spending the entire day closeted somewhere ignoring real life in case I see any spoilers..
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Like others, I'm also looking forward to Deathly Hallows, but a question I find much more interesting than who dies is what does JKR do next!
A difficult act to follow and she has been so utterly absorbed with these characters for ten years or more, I wonder if she will write any more. I have certainly read somewhere that she will possibly turn to adult books, but I wonder if she has the insentive to do so. Most children's authors need to write another book just to pay the mortgage etc. - not a problem that she is ever likely to face!!

She's written a book for younger children, hasn't she, but it's not out yet? There was an interview in Tatler or Harpers that said something like that. Tbh, I expected her to publish something non-Harry before Book 7, but I'm not complaining that she hasn't!
It would be interesting if she wrote an adult book - I wonder if her range would be up to it? Not that I think writing for adults is better, or harder, just different. Another difficulty (in common with other authors ) is that she's got quite a recognisable, stylised prose pattern, so it would be difficult for her to go incognito with a pen name for long, I guess?
Very interesting though.

Now, there's a surprise!Moose wrote:I am totally excited! I actually run a Harry Potter forum
Seriously; I've booked leave, and will be in my garden, next to the Faraway Tree, with copious bottles of Ringwood Old Thumper and beef crisps to hand, and Heaven help any idiot who comes knocking at my door.

Loved the worse witch books, and videos. Poor Milly what she went though, with HB (she was a thin as the pencil in my imagination)George@Kirrin wrote:Never read one in my life, was always a Worst Witch girl for anything magical.
Never really got in to HP books, always reminded me of HP sauce
I call my printer Harry Potter as it is an HP. Nothing magical has happened to it yet.
There is always something else new to learn.

I am a huge fan of Harry Potter too Matthew! Not long now!!!
Rumours are certainly flying around about Harry dying. It doesn't worry me though - As long as Snape doesn't die I'm happy!
